Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Corsair 8GB Flash Survivor USB 2.0 Flash Drive CMFUSBSRVR-8GBCustomer Review: aluminium is softer than stones! Summary: 1 Stars
the "GT" version is an extremely fast and reliable memory chip version and the product's weight and size are just fine for carrying it daily in your pockets. it is not meant to be carried in the heat of your trouser/pant pockets because the outer rubber bands (rings) will loosen and fall off after 1 week. also note that the whole product, excluding all 3 rubber parts, is glued from 5 parts even though the fotos suggest 2 parts. reviews and tests on the WWW reveal that the parts of the survivors fall off (glue!) if you shock it too hard on the ground. i must admit that 1 survivor GT died on me after falling from 3 feet height, which means that the survivor is sensitive to shocks (but not sensitivie to water, heat, and pressure). my advice: dont let it fall on the ground! and if you do wear it in your pockets with a key ring and keys, you'll experience a lot of wear and tear, especially at the rather soft hole; let's be technically clear, the material (Aluminium) is soft such that you can easily scratch it (let it fall on the ground..) and that the hole show wear and tear after a very short time. And eventually the hole would break through. here my advice: use 2 key rings, 1 small, 1 standard sized. this way you take off much stress from the hole, and thus wear and tear will progress at a much slower pace. also note that the 2 outside stickers and the 2 black rubber bands (rings) will fall off too, give it 3 months in your pockets. The 8GB "GT" was an early draft and the best product of its kind when it was released. The today's 64GB "GT" has a little improved form factor (design) but you should seriously look into the competition, e.g. LaCie's ExtremKey which is bulkier and much much heavier (and not very suited for pant pockets) but which has an overall better build quality: the wall thickness, the material used, and the design of the hole. check out some fotographs of the "GT" after having carried in my pockets for a while along with regular keys. If i could turn back the clock, i would probably not have bought this product again; so yes, i regret the purchase. but i also must admit that it was way cool to see *every* friend being amazed by this design of a usb flash drive. They thought it was a mini tube bomb :D
Before buying the Survivor or the "GT" consider similar rugged usb flash drive products such as the LaCie XtremKey 64GB All-Terrain or the A-DATA S805 32GB Sports Series (grey or red). good luck with your purchase decision!
Customer Review: Excellent product backed up by an exceptional company Summary: 5 Stars
This drive is by far one of the best designed USB flash drive that I have ever own or seen. I'm an architecture student and I constantly need to transfer drawing and image files rangeing from 100kbs to 1+Gbs between a series of computer; this drives size and acceptable speed deffinately enable me to do this. I need to have a flash drive with me constantly and I have found that the only way that I can remember to bring it with me in the morning after 3-4 nights with out sleep is to leave it on my keys.I also work construction and in the past, most drive that i have left on my keys have only been able to last ~1 month before they were just completely non-functional. Thus I found myself going through flash drives like M&M's.
It is larger than most drives however its about the same length as my trucks key. It is TOUGH. I've had it quite some time now and ever part of it is just as tough as ever. Be aware that "aircraft aluminum" will be very suceptible to cosmetic damage hower i find that i really just gives it a more convicing arugment for its design. It's water proof design allows me also to do my laundry with my keys in my poket witch is also quite a frequent occurance. All of this and it's backed up by a 10 YEAR warrenty. You really can't go wrong with this drive.
Customer Review: DO NOT ACCEPT OLD SINGLE EYELET MODEL Summary: 1 Stars
Amazon is sending a return label and replacing the old style 1 eyelet item they sent me with the 2 eyelet model pictured in the sales material for the product. Be aware of the difference. Originally there was a single eyelet on the removable cover, now there is still an eyelet on the cover, but in addition there is a second eyelet on the USB flash memory unit as well.
The manufacturer made this improvement after numerous published complaints which pointed out that if the cover were to become dislodged from the Memory, it was the memory, and your precious data which you'd want tethered to your body, key ring, backpack etc. Not the empty cover.
Apparently Amazon has some old stock, and whether by design or neglect these can be the ones you get if you are unlucky.
Check it out before you open the blister package.
Good luck!
Customer Review: Extremely tough and durable Summary: 5 Stars
I've had my 8GB survivor drive for about two years, and it is still solid. I've screwed it open and closed a few hundred times, but the threads still hold well, and the o-ring is still pliant. I haven't actually tried dunking it in water, but I've had it in my pocket while out in the rain a few times, and the inside kept dry.
As for the drive itself, 8GB is a decent amount of storage (and I see you can get 64GB now), although it's not very fast. The round knob at the end takes up a lot of space, so you can't always fit this next to another USB peripheral. But unless you're using every free USB port on your computer, this won't be a problem.
Overall, this is an excellent product. The toughness is over-engineered about 1000%, but this is hardly a bad thing.
Customer Review: Well worth the wait! Summary: 5 Stars
I had trouble transferring 7 GB worth of photos between computers and decided to buy an 8GB flash drive. I ordered this on Amazon based on the reviews. Although it shipped quickly it did take about a week and a half to arrive, but that is USPS' fault, not the seller's. The flash drive itself is built like a tank, it has a rubber O-ring to seal out water/moisture when it is closed (making it submersible and water resistant/waterproof) and the aluminum extruded shell could probably be run over by a car without damaging the flash drive (literally). It isn't the fastest flash drive that I've ever used, but it is the most durable by far. Also, it comes with a USB 2.0 extension cord. I can't believe the price--it is a fantastic value as well as a fantastic product.
