After reading all of the mixed reviews on this product I went ahead and decided to purchase not knowing what I would get. The cartridges came in 3 individual boxes all nicely wrapped in a sealed bubble wrap type bag. I removed the paper and orange pull tab from one of the cartridges and put it in my printer with no problems. I then printed a test page with terrible results- the page was completely black with horizontal streaks on the entire page. I then printed from a different source to see if that would work but it printed the same black page again. I checked the reviews on amazon and found someone else had this problem on 1 out of 3 cartridges.
Instead of throwing away the cartridge I did a google search to find out if I could resolve the issue. It turns out the wires and contacts inside the printer can become dirty and not allow a good connection between the cartridge and printer causing a degradation in the amount of voltage supplied. So I got out some rubbing alcohol and went to work cleaning all of the contacts. At last I got some success! I printed a test page and it looked good overall except on the left hand margin there are equally spaced gray smudges all the way down the page. :(
In conclusion I would not recommend these cartridges for someone who needs a perfect print. The artifacts on the left hand margin reduce the quality of print substantially. Printed text looks great, nearly matching the quality of the original HP cartridge. I have yet to try the other two cartridges but hope that they work better than this one. If you can deal with the above mentioned problems go ahead and buy as this is a great deal, otherwise look elsewhere for a better quality product.
