Customer Review: Nice but only lasted a month

I bought this for child entertainment during a 2 week trip. Besides not being loud enough to listen to in the car without earphones, it worked just fine throughout our trip. Simple to use, convenient swivel screen, and the size is perfect (I'd previously ordered and returned a 7" screen because that was just too small). I started giving it one-star, but I really liked it while it lasted and I'm still hoping the company will fix it, so...
The problem: it only worked for about a month. Since then, it only says "no disc" whenever when you try to play any DVD. I called the company who suggested it may gotten damp, and that I should leave it plugged in for some time. I live in New Mexico which is very dry, but I tried this, with no luck. Then I was told I needed a cleaning disc. That seemed odd too, since we'd only watched a handful of DVDs on it, but I went out and bought a cleaning disc. Still no luck.
Dealing with the Company: the main problem with contacting the company is that you'll either get a recording which tells you they're too busy, call back later (then hangs up), or you'll be on hold for about 1/2 hour (the recording will give you a higher time estimate, like 45 minutes, but it goes a bit quicker). A lot of folks, including myself, don't have enough time M - F to stay home and make the calls (unless you can use your cell, or call from work, which many can't), and so this got delayed until finally it was 6 months later and past the warranty period. I don't know if I just got lucky or the folks working at Coby are all really nice, but the fellow I spoke with told me to send in (insured) the DVD player and all accessories with $10 and a letter stating that I'd just received it as a gift, in order to receive warranty service. So, hopefully they'll fix it!
