Customer Review: Installers Beware!

Purchased this item as a Christmas gift. Very meticulously read and followed the installation instructions. The unit came with 3 different size bolts to hang it under the cabinet. They were 2 1/2", 3 1/2", and 4 1/2". You are to choose the bolt that best fits your needs for the install. The installation instructions stated that the maximum thickness of the board that the unit was mounted to should be 1/2" thick. Given the length of the bolts and the minimal thickness of the mounting board (in my case the thickness of the bottom shelf) it appeared that you should use the longest bolt possible to be assured that it was securely mounted. After upon drilling the holes for mounting I chose to use the 3 1/2" bolts that were the longest I could use. After screwing the bolts into the unit it did not fully pull up close to the cabinet. It was very close but not tight. The heads of the bolts began to strip out. I then tried to remove the bolts. I could remove the back two bolts but not the front two. Finally, the bolts on the front broke while trying to remove them leaving the bottom half in the unit. I took the unit apart to see why there was a problem and to remove the remaining portion of the bolts. I immediately discovered the problem. Two of the four bolts screwed into the motherboard of the unit with one bending into an "S" shape while wapping itself in wires and the other going through a processor. The third bolt drilled into a speaker. I was amazed that there were not channels made inside the unit for the bolts to track through and that there were no warnings that anything like this could happen. If I had chosen to use the 2 1/2" bolt the same thing would have happened. The bolts had to pass through a 1/2" lower shelf plus account for a 3/4" overhang on the front of the shelf, so there was 1 1/4" before they even began going into the unit and they were all still too long. This is a major design flaw and fortunately I never plugged the unit in.
The return of the unit was not much better. I first contacted the manufacturer who told me to go back to the point of purchase. The seller after a 6 day delay in responding to my email requested more information. I immediately sent it. Then 3 days later I was told they could not accept the return and to contact the manufacturer to have it replaced under warranty. I was to tell the manufacturer that the unit was returned outside the seller's return period. When I contacted the manufacturer I was told that I would have to ship the unit to them (at my cost) and include a money order for $15 to return the replacement unit to me. It only cost $12 to ship it to me the first time. I was then told it would be 6 to 8 weeks before I would receive a replacement unit. At this point, I am disputing the purchase and seeking a refund.
I have no idea how good the picture looks or how well the unit works. It was never plugged in, fortunately. If you buy this item make sure to use your own hardware for installation and get screws or bolts shorter than 2 1/2". Then still be VERY careful.
