Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby DP702 7-Inch Widescreen Digital Photo Frame (Woodgrain)Customer Review: Good Digital Picture Frame - FOR THE PRICE! Recommended Summary: 4 Stars
The Coby "DP702 7-Inch Widescreen Digital Photo Frame" is not a high-end multi-media device, and nor is it priced like one. This frame is a low cost, but feature rich device that gives you a lot functionality for very little money. It is, in fact, a real bargain!
Here are my observations:
Pros -
* Acceptable picture quality - FOR THE PRICE
* The wood grain frame is attractive
* Included Remote Control
* Accepts a wide variety of memory cards (SD, MMC, MS, xD, and CF card slots, as well as USB for flash memory drives)
* Plays pictures in Slide Show, Audio Files, and Videos
* Slide show starts automatically if no buttons are pressed when the device is powered on
* Sound is decent through built in speakers
Cons -
* Menu is a little difficult to navigate
* Not really practical to hang on a wall due to the power cord
* No internal memory (but memory cards are cheap, see SanDisk 1 GB Secure Digital SD Card (SDSDB-1024, Bulk Package) for example)
So, this INEXPENSIVE frame is not perfect and has somewhat marginal picture quality, but I truly think that this one of the rare cases where you get more than you pay for. There are better frames available, but you will certainly pay more for them as well.
Recommended, but only if you understand that you are buying a value priced device with some limitations.
Customer Review: Decent Value For the Price, But Poor Warranty Protection Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've wanted to try one of these digital frames for some time, but was deterred by the price. Well, this one is attractively priced, and I find it generally worth the investment.
To start with, the frame appearance is nice: looks like dark walnut.
And it combines quite a few features, including photo slideshow, movie viewer and music player (as well as a clock/calendar).
However, it has minimal internal memory, so you really need to use a thumb drive or memory card. Since the price on these is now so low, its not really a great concern.
Also, this item does not take batteries, so you have to use the included power cord. This is only a negative if you wanted to mount it on a wall without the cord showing.
I found the clarity of the photos quite good for such a small screen. And you can adjust color and sharpness to fit individual tastes. The music quality is decent - oblviously its not meant as a high-end audio device.
The warranty is sub-par in my opinion. Only 90 days on labor, plus you have to include a $10 money order for return shipping. And, you must contact Coby first for return approval.... Because of these warranty hassles and limitations, I lower my overall product rating to a "3"
Customer Review: A good, inexpensive digital frame Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've owned a couple of less expensive digital frames and this one is the better ones of the bunch (although the lack of internal memory is a small complaint). Not to worry, though - because it has just about any kind of card slot available to use instead. The controls are not very intuitive and I had fun trying to set up the slideshow, but finally got it set up. The included remote control lets you set up and run your frame from around the room and seems easier to work with than the icons on the main screen's control panel - a bit.
I guess the biggest problem that still hasn't been solved in this price point is the picture quality. It is decent, but not great (certainly better than ones from a couple years ago). If you want high resolution and bright digital pictures, this isn't going to cut it. Even adjusting the frame for extra brightness and contrast didn't help much, and the viewing angle is somewhat limited. If you are not looking directly at the frame and at eye level, you really can't see much. I am finally convinced that if I really want a picture frame that is going to look like a real picture is in the frame when it's on, I'm going to have to go up a price-point or two to get a decent one.
Customer Review: Quite Good For the Price Summary: 4 Stars

The screen resolution is the weakest aspect of the DP702. It is only 480 X 234. That's only a little better than snapshot quality. But all the features work. And, while the wide screen format does leave space on both sides of the standard format photograph, it can be manipulated to zoom in - filling the screen while cropping off some of the top and bottom. There is also an up and down, left and right, feature for viewing all parts that have been cropped by zooming in. Yes, this is a little less than what one would desire. But the price is right, and the unit would make a great gift for that teenager you love. The DP702 has lots of features: One is a rather nice calender alarm clock that runs on a small internal lithium battery. It displays WMA, MPG1, and MPG 4 video formats. Also, the unit has sound with built-in speakers and headphone jack. It plays MP3's, accepts five types of memory plug-ins (4 cards and 1 USB), and comes with a 5 volt power adapter. And it is user friendly. I tested all features of mine without reading the instruction manual.
Customer Review: Converting video for Coby DP-702 Summary: 4 Stars
After alot of trial and error, I tried the freeware SUPER conversion program from [...]. Kudos to erigthsoft as it worked with following settings. I used a USB flashdrive and put the converted video under a root folder simply named "videos" to hold the converted video. The Coby recognized this folder as holding video files:
Open SUPER conversion program
Settings are critical and should be as follows from top of screen down:

Options - check only Hi Quality
Audio - leave disable audio and stream copy unchecked
Sampling Freq - 44100, Channels 2
Bitrate 96 kps, DVD Language Track default
Output - will show summary of above settings
Right Click in Active/File Name/Streaming Link section and select raw file to be converted
Lower left click button Encode (Active Files)
Converted Video will be output to C:program files/erightsoft/SUPER/Output folder
Good luck.
