Customer Review: Really happy with this purchase
Summary: 4 Stars

I had been using an FM transmitter for my iPod nano for about a year. I like the convenince of it, espcially no wires and being out of the way. Plus it would charge my iPod. But the channel constantly had to be changed and sometimes I couldn't find a clear channel at all. Then it would be all crackly. So I ended up never using the thing other than to charge my iPod in the car. I was hesitant to get the tape deck solution but for less than $10 and the good reviews on this item I decided to give it a try. I love the fact that you can change the direction of the plug into the tape iteself. I needed to do that. The sound quality is great! I never have to worry about changing channels or losing the sound. It always works. I have an auto reverse tape deck but I never had an issue with that. I still don't like all the wires but I can live with it. I had a power splitter already with built in USB connections so I can use the iPod cable to charge. I use this all the time now that there is no worries about the channel going out. Definetly worth the price.

Customer Review: I ordered another one
Summary: 5 Stars

Cassette adapters in the past have generally lasted for a few years for me. My last one conked out on me just a few days ago, after many years (more than 4 I think) of service, and it was no longer outputting all channels (worthless). So I ordered this one. At less than $8, I'm ordering another one! I have two items that do not have alternative inputs: A boombox with CD and a tapedeck, and my car that I bought in 2002, also equipped with both CD and tape.

The sound quality is good. I haven't had it long enough to really put it under scrutiny. Basically, I played the songs that I know the other one was leaving the channel out of to make sure it worked, and that it wasn't my ipod and ipad that somehow both had the same issue at the same exact time ;-) I have not experienced the auto-reverse issue that others have, and the dual direction of the wire is not really a necessity for me, but it is a nice feature.

Overall, great product, be sure to read reviews of others that have had this product longer. I can't comment on longevity...

Customer Review: Seriously Flawed
Summary: 4 Stars

I've used my Coby cassette adapter for about six months. I'd buy a new car stereo, but my car isn't very new and it's one of those double height models, limiting my choices of replacement radios by quite a lot.

At first it seemed to work OK, as long as I didn't push the stereo plug all the way into my MP3 player. After a while though, it seemed that no matter how much or little I pushed the stereo plug into my player, it wouldn't work right. It would either only play one channel if it was pushed in all the way, or I'd have to hold it in halfway for it to work. After a while it would cut out all the time.

At first I thought the problem was with my MP3 player, but when I bought a different one, I could only get sound out of one of the two stereo channels. I've since switched to a Walkman Car Connecting Pack for MD Walkman and CD Walkman (Model# CPA-9C) and it works fine.

Get the Sony instead. It works properly.

Customer Review: Horrible sound!
Summary: 1 Stars

I bought this item so I could use my MP3 player to play songs through my car stereo. Now, when I play actual tapes in my car stereo they sound great, so I know the tape player is good, and my MP3 player sounds great through headphones so I know the MP3 player is good, but it sounds terrible through this adapter. The sound comes through as though the bass was cranked up to maximum and midrange and treble are practically nonexistent.

Even with my car stereo's bass turned all the way down and the treble turned all the way up, I can barely hear the singer or instruments over the drums and bass. Worse yet, the bass doesn't even sound good. It's all muddy and booming like you're listening to it with pillows over your ears or something. Listening to music through this is worse than not listening to any music.

This item will be going into the garbage. I wouldn't even try to sell it on eBay because I wouldn't feel right separating another poor sucker from his cash for such a huge disappointment as this.

Customer Review: Intermittently poor operation in G35
Summary: 1 Stars

My setup:
iPod nano (4G?)
Belkin TuneBaseFM
2003 Infiniti G35 with factory (non-Bose) cassette player. The iPod is connected via the dock connector, The deck is side-loading.

I have used several cassette adaptors over the years. Some worked well at first but degraded over time. I've had good luck with Sony and Radio Shack brands but my last of each were either completely non-functional (Radio Shack) or some of the songs are garbled or sound scratchy (the Sony).

This adaptor works well when first inserted, the music does not seem distorted. However after a short period of time, usually several minutes, the sound fades and becomes inaudible. If I try to increase the volume I can hear what sounds like tape drive sound competing with the music.

I don't know the cause of the problem, nor have I found a solution. It seems like the cassette is not making good contact with the play head. I have given up and have reverted to the scratchy Sony adaptor.
