Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter AdapterCustomer Review: GREAT quality - but VERY breakable Summary: 3 Stars
First off, the quality of this FM transmitter is far better than any I've used. Period. I've tried Belkin, Kenwood, iRiver, and various generic models, and this one just blows them away. Strong, loud, signal with no static.
Unfortunately it has two major design flaws. The first is the cord. After a few months of normal use, you will start hearing loud scratchy noises every time you move the cord. This means you have a short at the end near the plug, and eventually it will result in your transmitter completely failing. The second is the contacts on the end that goes into the lighter. They are very poorly soldered, and eventually come off.
After going back and forth multiple times doing multiple returns a very courteous seller, I managed to make a working transmitter out of two broken ones, which my wife is very happy with.
In conclusion, highly recommended for the signal and sound quality. But it WILL break after a few weeks or months. These things just don't last. Hopefully Coby will come out with a new model with the same inner workings that holds up a little better.
Customer Review: Coby Rules My Vehicles Airwaves Summary: 5 Stars
I don't take time out of my schedule for reviews unless I have been very disappointed or very pleased. In this case, it is definitely the latter. The Coby FM Transmitter does what it is supposed to do, does it elegantly and with little if any anoyances. Plug it in, find a station free spot on your FM dial, set the Coby to that same frequency, plug your MP3 player in and Rock On. Wayne and Garth never had it so good.
This unit features a very cool blue display, tunes as many frequencies as any FM radio can, plugs into a lighter or outlet and has another outlet on the front under a flip up top.
I detect very, very little difference in sound quality between this and my FM stations. Bass is clean and tight and I have never lost the signal. The added bonus of the spare outlet is a well thought out addition and just great design genius.
My suggestion is to get this unit ASAP, as the price is just too good to pass up. It saved me an easy $60.00 in modifications to add a physical jack for my player at the local car audio emporium. Go for it...Uncle Willie
Customer Review: economical and effective Summary: 4 Stars
It's not as good as a direct-in jack of course, but this may be the next best thing. I had to buy a car transmitter, because the radio in my 2008 Hundai Santa Fe (purchased in February '09) did not include an input jack. A lot of the more-expensive wireless FM units have been ripped pretty badly by on-line commenters. This one seemed to get the most favorable reviews; and, at the price, it was a low-risk purchase. I mainly use it to listen to NPR and other podcasts, as well as streamed-audio recordings that I make on my laptop while stopping overnight on the road. The Coby covers part of the little-used lower portion of the FM dial; and, therefore, I have not experienced any interference from commercial or public FM stations. My only complaint is that, during a talk progam, I sometimes hear interference that seems to be coming from the car's engine--a whining sound in the background that varies in frequency with the engine's RPM. The few times I have used it for music, it worked fine. Although my Hundai has extra power outlets, the built-in outlet in the Coby is a nice feature.
Customer Review: Pretty good solution Summary: 4 Stars
I have a car that doesn't have a jack for an MP3 player, and it doesn't have a tape deck, so I can't use one of those tape deck converters. I found out about these things. I bought this one because it was pretty cheap (compared to the others) and got pretty good reviews. I like it a lot. I can plug my phone into it and then talk on the phone with the caller's voice coming out of my stereo speakers, so I can turn them up as loud as I want. (I can never hear my handsfree set while I'm driving, but this works great.) I also plug my mp3 player into it, and most of the time I can hear it pretty well with no static. The one exception:
I travel a lot, so it's a little bit of a pain when you drive into a town where your chosen station (say, 90.5) has a radio station on it. When that happens, you hear a lot of static, and you have to hunt for a station that's free. Other than that, though, this is a great solution. I read one review where the guy said it was flimsy and came apart, but I've abused mine on a 30 day cross country road trip and it's still working fine and still solid.
Customer Review: Coby CA-745 FM Transmitter Summary: 4 Stars
This is a fantastic product! It transmits crystal clear signal in FM, and I don't get any static disturbances at all in the signal received and reproduced by the Car stereo.
One small issue is that I think some of the high-pitch instruments in the music does not hear as clear as the original audio source. I think the FM transmitter may be leaving out some certain frequency bands in the transmission; I am not sure though. Another thing is that the product as such doesn't look that elegant ... the transparent sticker coating on the FM transmitter looks cheap, and can come out very easily. But the price-tag is also not that heavy!
I'm overall very happy with the Coby CA-745 FM Transmitter for the price I paid. When I use it with my GPS navigator, it gives out crystal clear voice guidance directions through my Car's speakers, which is a great experience. I use my Windows Mobile phone's MP3 player software to playback songs, and hear it through the car's speakers, which is really nice. You don't need to keep bundles of CD's in your car. :-)
