Customer Review: Coby (go figure!) got it Right
Summary: 5 Stars

I drive for a living, and I love jazz. I also think FM radio is insipid at best, so I've been using wireless transmitters for my CD and now Mp3 player for over 4 yrs. This, so far, is the best. It covers the full FM spectrum, provides power to keep a signal and looks way cool doing it. I always had a low opinion of all things Coby, but they really hit a homerun with this piece of gear. The only question will be, how will it work in 3 or 6 months? If I don't change this review then buy it, by all means. When something works this good for under $20 it's a no-brainer.
Addendum: It's been a couple months now and the unit had been performing very well. Held the signal better than any other wireless FM transmitter I ever tried. Seldom faded and constant strength. But then... just today, I tried using the piggyback adaptor with a 60w converter for a heating pad and it burnt out the Coby. That's why I went into the detailed description: if you use the adaptor let it be for a cellphone or something using less juice. Otherwise it will fry the unit. I ordered another one though as I really enjoyed using it- so in the end that's the highest endorsement I can give.

Customer Review: Pretty good!
Summary: 5 Stars

I am very pleased with the Coby CA-745 in my 2005 Honda Odyssey. I also have a Coby battery-operated FM transmitter which I had used in the Odyssey previously but I purchased the CA-745 to avoid having to replace batteries. On the maiden drive around town, we listened to pop, world and classical music. All were quite clear, the signal strength seemed very good (better even than the battery-operated transmitter, although the battery-operated unit works great in the house), and the radio frequency on the transmitter was easy to view, although I did not have to change it once.

Since the Odyssey-specific headunit has no input jack (except in the 3rd row back seat!), this really is a pretty good way to access music from my SanDisk Sansa. Of course, what would really be nice is to have mp3-capability integrated in the headunit and a wireless network storage device in the car that is able to sync music with my computer via the home network when I pull into the garage (so you could manage the music in your car in just the same way you manage the music on your mp3 player, all from your computer). I've not seen anything like this. Does it exist?

Customer Review: Great Sound Quality but Crackels very soon
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this product back in April when i ordered a new 120GB Zune off Amazon... Upon recieving both products I was suprised to hear how good the sound quality was - near cassette adapter quality and nothing like any of the other FM Tuners I've used in the past.... The unit kept the station even when it was unplugged, the light was convenient and it was strong enough of a signal that i didn't have to change the station at all.... All in all this was a great buy for the that first month until yesterday when something happened (and I don't know what) to cause every an ear-grinding crackle every time the MP3 player or the unit's cable were moved even slightly [a sensitivity that was not present during the prior month].... Not sure what caused this issue since it was not dropped or removed from the cigrette ligter for the last month but i would think it should have a longer life than 1 month.... Not sure what I'm going to do because if i have to pay shipping for warranty sevice on this then It might not be worth. One things for sure.. when i have to replace it I will think 2x about getting a coby.. great quality or not due to this longevity issue.

Customer Review: Will not fit Toyota socket without modifications, otherwise great product
Summary: 4 Stars

I ordered this product for my dad, who has a Toyota Camry. Had read the reviews about it not working in Toyotas, but wanted to give it a try and see if it really was a problem.

It would not work in his Camry when we tried it. Went to my Honda Accord and it worked perfectly. We compared it with another power adapter for a cell phone and noticed that on the cell phone adapter, the nose was tapered, while on the Coby, it was actually proud and nubby.

Got out the dremel tool and got rid of the bull nose on the Coby with about 2 minutes of shaping. Tried it again and it worked perfectly. Too bad that when they molded the nose they didn't do it properly.

Sound is good, there are lots of frequencies to broadcast on, and I really like that you can plug another adapter into the top so that it doesn't take up your only power socket. And the price is unbeatable.

So, if you have a Toyota and feel comfortable with shaving off a little plastic, then this is a great product. Non-toyota owners should be happy as well. But steer clear if you have a Toyota and don't want to do a little bit of modification.

Customer Review: Good enough for the money
Summary: 3 Stars

For the price, this was good enough. It is the first mp3 converter I have purchased. I wanted to listen to my mp3's in my car, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money for it. It worked great for a few days and then everytime I hit a bump it would cut out. Then, it wouldn't connect when I plugged it in until I jiggled it around a bunch. At first, I thought there was something wrong with my outlet, but found other items worked fine. Finally, it stopped working all together no matter how much I jiggled it. I was going to send it back, but my husband is mister fix it and took it apart. Turns out the wires inside weren't connected very well and just fell off the connection things. He soldered them back on and it works great now. I love that I can choose whatever station I want to use. It is so bulky and awkward that it doesn't fit into just any outlet. It will only work in 2 of my outlets. However, I'm hoping my next car will have an mp3 connection built in so I don't want to spend the money for a really good converter. Also, it doesn't have an on/off switch so you have to unplug it all the time if you don't want it draining your battery.
