Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter AdapterCustomer Review: Works in signal-full New Haven area Summary: 5 Stars
This tranmitter works very well. I live in southwestern CT, between New Haven and Bridgeport, and there are very few numbers on the radio dial that are free of reception. As a result, my old "irock" transmitter that I bought at Radio Shack was giving me problems, as it only had four stations to choose from (88.1, 88.3, 88.5, 88.7), which worked fine in eastern CT, but not here.
The Coby seems to transmit a stronger signal than my irock did, but I still needed to find another frequency. Once I did, the sound was good, but with still a hint of white noise. The solution, which was easy to accomplish with the long, curly-Q style cord (which serves as the transmitting antenna), was to stick a couple of 3M hooks on my dashboard, and then stretch the Coby's cord over to the passenger side of my car, such that it was transmitting a bit closer to my car's antenna. Voila! Perfect transmission/reception. In fact, using 87.9, I've driven to Rhode Island and back without changing stations.
To complete the setup in my car, I used stick-on velcro to place my Iriver Clix2 slightly to the right of my car's speedometer (etc) console. Perfect. Car juke-box complete.

Customer Review: NOT a new item Summary: 1 Stars
Received product on 13 February, and within the hour, it was already back in the box, with an RMA#. It never even made it to the car, much less the front door. Product received was in sealed package, but at least part of the product was NOT new.
Digital display face area was well worn, with numerous scratches in multiple directions, and the plastic film covering was peeling away from the edges of the face. Looks more like a defective unit got returned to the factory, and they put the old display into a new body.
***Update 19 Feb 2009- Received replacement, and it looked almost as bad as the first one. Markings weren't apparent through the clear packaging, but once you pull the transmitter out, they're obvious. I was very careful to open the package from the side, and make sure that the face didn't make contact with the packaging when I took it out, to rule out the packaging being the cause of some of the scratches. This one's going back for a refund. With two nearly the same, it appears that Coby is trying to cut corners, and costs. Not a healthy business strategy. Five stars for Amazon's speedy replacement service, 0 for Coby.
Customer Review: Tremendous Product! Summary: 5 Stars
I spent a lot of time researching different ways to enjoy a Microsoft Zune in the car. This CA-745 is obviously a lower-priced item compared to the other transmitters out there.
1) Downloaded music and CD-Ripped music -- Five Stars, No complaints. 2) Music recorded from cassette to PC -- 4.9 Stars, Low quality in, lower quality out, Who can argue with that? 3) Lighted digital display with FM Station -- Perfect. 4) Ability to plug in one other powered item - Satellite Radio, Phone Charger -- All with no static? Priceless.
After one week, I slammed the car door on the 3.5mm Stereo Audio Input Jack. The housing is deformed now, and still sounds perfect. I drive three hours a day, and it is "static-y" for about 30 seconds -- all at the same stretch of road. Most of the time I don't even notice.
The other reviews were helpful, especially the information about maxing out the sound on your music player (or whatever) to be able to hear any output. In the car, my Zune is maxed out at "20," and at home I listen at a "2." So, be careful you audio gurus!
I couldn't be more pleased with this product. Thank you, Coby!
Customer Review: Works great for me, even in extremely cold weather! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been looking for a wireless transmitter to use with my iPods for awhile now, and when I came across the Coby here, it had features that I all liked. Plus, I have had Coby products in the past and I have never been disappointed with them.
Well, I am not disappointed with this transmitter. Since I live in North Dakota and leave the transmitter in my car, on those really cold days it still works great. I also like that it frees up my outlet so if I want to charge a cell phone or GPS, or use an inverter to plug in my computer.
I do recommend setting it on one of the lower numbered FM stations. I believe I have it at 87.9 right now. I found going higher can cause some issues with the sound. I had it on 107.9 once and there was a faint hum. It could also be because I can get a radio station in on 107.9 from time to time, so use a lower numbered frequency where there is no station broadcasting on it.
Other than that, I don't think you would be disappointed with this item. It is cheaper than some of the other transmitters out there and has some features that those expensive ones don't have. Definitely give it a try!
