Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter AdapterCustomer Review: Works, sometimes Summary: 3 Stars
Even though I was skeptical, I really couldn't resist buying this transmitter for such a great price. And for what I paid, it is a good product, but there are some serious drawbacks that I just can't get passed.
First of all, the black plastic label is already coming off after less than a week of use. This is purely a cosmetic problem, so a little glue will fix it pretty quick, but it still makes it look really cheap. But, oh yeah, it is cheap. You also have to turn the volume way up to get any sound--at first we thought it didn't work at all because we couldn't hear anything. So be careful when plugging your headphones back in or turning on your radio or you will get blasted.
There are a ton of frequencies to chose from, yet they are very touchy. If it detects any interference, you can forget listening to your music. When it does get a clean band, the sound quality is great, and you can usually flip back and pick up the signal again without too much hassle. It also really hates sitting under power lines.
So, overall, if you are going to sit in your driveway, find a clear station and not move, this is the perfect product. If you are actually going to be driving anywhere, I suggest investing the extra $15 on a little better product. It works about the same with either an iPod or an MP3 player.
Customer Review: Heartily Endorsed! Summary: 5 Stars
I had been looking for a FM transmitter for my SanDisk Sansa e270 6 GB MP3 Player with SD Expansion Slot (Black) and had looked at some more expensive brands before I settled on this product. I was a little concerned about the quality of the Colby CA-745, but decided to take the plunge and I am happy that I did.
The full range of frequency settings makes it easy to find an empty channel and the backlight is very nice when driving in the dark. Having the adapter, which allows for charging a cell phone or plugging in a radar detector, is also a very nice feature. Like others, I found that I had to turn the volume all the way up on my MP3 player in order to get the signal, but from there, I could turn the volume up or down via my car stereo. The only feature that this transmitter is lacking is the ability to skip to the next song via the stereo controls on my steering wheel (using those controls change the radio station, which makes sense). However, at this price, I can live without that particular feature. Aesthetically speaking, I like that the transmitter has a very similar design to my Sansa.
I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who is looking for an FM transmitter.
Customer Review: Excellent Sound Quality, Cheap Materials Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this item about a month ago and from the first moment I turned it on it has delivered excellent sound quality. When you first start using it the cord is a bit stiff and so when it is moved it will cause some interference. After the cord loosens up a bit its not a factor unless you are really stretching cord.
The casing that houses the 12V adapter has already started to crack and chip off within the first couple of days. You can tell that they didn't use very expensive material but given the price I didn't expect better.
The positive thing is that they put all the money into making a quality product that is clear when played. Even on radio stations that i get a signal through my car antenna this device overpowers the radio station and the feed from the ipod comes through clean and without distortion.
If you are looking for something that works and gets the job done, this product is for you. If you are concerned about the best looking product with the best materials this may not be your favorite. The only other comment is that for some cars you have to pull the device out of the 12V car socket when you turn the car off otherwise it will drain your battery.
Overall, this is an awesome product and I would definitely recommend it for the price.
Customer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
After an exhaustive search for a good FM transmitter, I thought this product was a good choice: it seemed to have a good quality and a reasonable price. AND I WAS RIGHT!
The pros:
-No batteries needed, just plug it in the cigarette lighter. Also you still have the plug available because of the built-in outlet
-Easy-to-read, blue-color backlit screen
-Long pigtail cable. To give an idea of how long it is, a person sitting on the back seat can use the player while connected to the transmitter on the front
-Excellent sound quality - No noises or interferences (depending on the station chosen and how crowded the stations are on the city, of course; but in my city I haven't experienced any of these problems)
-You can choose almost any station you want
-It can be retracted to take less space when stored
-The materials are fine - FM transmitters are not the sturdiest devices anyway, but this one seems fine
The cons:
The only con I noticed was that when you move the cable a lot you may hear some noise, but only when moved hardly. Even if you are in a dirt road, you won't hear any noise.
Bottom line: I couldn't have chosen a better transmitter. I don't think those Monster transmitter would be any better.
Customer Review: Not what I was expecting Summary: 3 Stars
I'll admit, I'm a sucker for good reviews. Enough so that after reading some of them here, I almost want to buy it again. But be warned: mine lasted two days, and never really worked all that great anyway.
Was a constant struggle to find a place in my car to put my mp3 player that would actually come through clearly, usually it worked best while almost sitting on it or simply holding it constantly. Even then it wasn't that great. Also, it picked up noise from my car at times, and made lots of noise whenever a charger was plugged into it's spare socket.
Can't say that at times I didn't have good fun with it. Not a terrible unit, but dissapointing at times is all.
Ended up taking it out to check to see if the channel was occupied to see if I had a good channel or not, and when I put it back in, it didn't turn on.
Going to try and send it in, as it is warranted up to 90 days, but still, I just want to listen to music. This thing is definitely not giving a good impression right now.
Suggestion: ignore anything like this unless you really don't care about the 20 bucks you'll spend on it. Sorry, I know it's a pain, but right now, I miss that money.
