Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter AdapterCustomer Review: Loved it, Broke it, Buying another Summary: 4 Stars
Awhile back I bought a Coby clock radio that was a piece of junk so I was leery of buying this FM Transmitter. However; based on the reviews for this and other brands I decided to give it a try. Since many people seemed to have trouble getting reception I didn't want to spend a lot of money and have the same problem. Plus, since I use my Garmin a lot I liked the idea of the extra port.
The set up was a cinch. The quality was great and it proved to be pretty durable considering is was plugged in and unplugged twice a day and thrown on the floor and most likely stepped on.
Then one day for some dumb reason; when I plugged it in; I decided I needed to jiggle the plug like you sometimes have to do with adapter plugs and it just stopped working. I don't know what happened but I blame myself for it and at 17.99 a pop I decided that I could try another.
Customer Review: Works good for a low-end transmitter. Summary: 4 Stars
This is my second Coby CA-745, the first one I ordered accidentally got left in the car for a few nights in Anchorage during December. The -20F temperature ruined this thing, so don't be an idiot and leave it out in the extreme cold.
That being said, I liked the first one well enough to order another and I've been pleased with both. The quality is quite decent, I rarely have signal interference even living in a congested area. The spiral cord is nice too, it takes up very little space.
The one issue I have with this thing is that when you turn the car off and leave, the adapter stays on, so make sure to unplug the adapter when you leave the car. This is a significant annoyance but not enough to put me off from the product.
Overall, if I'm dumb enough to leave this thing out in the cold again and ruin it, I'll buy another.
Customer Review: coby makes good stuff for your car Summary: 4 Stars
i bought two of these. both seem to work fine. i am in the nyc area and there is hissing on almost all channels but it is very minimal. outside the city (long island) it works really well. another thing i have noticed is that depending on the strength of your antenna and the quality of your radio you may get better or worse sound. in my corolla, there is hissing. in my friends newer accord, he gets much less hissing on the same channels in the same area. so assuming the accord has a better radio than my corolla (which i feel is a fair assumption), it makes sense. gave it a 4/5 because of the hissing. built quality is okay. when i used the extra outlet, i heard a cracking noise when i plugged in my gps power cord. the outlet worked fine and i have not heard that sound again. and it is also not a loose connection. hope this helps!
Customer Review: It worked great... for a while Summary: 4 Stars
I read lots of reviews on various transmitters before deciding to buy this one. When I got it and plugged it in I was happy to see how well it worked, the sound was pretty clear once I found the right channel, I used it nearly every day for about 3 months and never had a problem with it...until the other night. I plugged it in as I always do, it flashed on and then off again. I thought I had not pushed it in all the way so I poked at it and it barely flickered and then nothing. I won't work at all now. I checked the fuse in it and it was still intact, so I have no idea why it stopped working. I'm pretty disappointed, I really liked this transmitter. I'm almost thinking of getting another one in case this was just a fluke. I bought a Sony one the other day, it cost over $30 and didn't work AT ALL. I immediately returned it.
Customer Review: OK For Awhile Summary: 2 Stars
This is a very "no-frills" type of transmitter, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It's easy to use, and you can still use your cigarette liter (say to charge a phone or something) while you're listening to your MP3 player over the radio. It's easy to use, and I didn't have any trouble receiving the signal loud and clear over my stereo. However, it developed a short in the wire that connects to your MP3 player after about 7 months. The cord is hard wired into the device, and cannot be replaced. The short got very bad, very quickly and the whole thing was all but unusable after 8 months. I leave my FM transmitters in my car, so perhaps the fluctuations in temperature played a role. In my opinion, this is not a good buy. There is an FM transmitter made by Soundfly on Amazon that I've had much better luck with.
