Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter Adapter

Customer Review: Excellent for my Kindle 2!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Coby suits my needs very well. I listen to my Kindle 2 for hours in the car every week (using the text-to-speech). While the built-in speakers on the Kindle are decent, they weren't quite loud enough in some situations.

I'd had an FM transmitter for an iPod before, but it had broken and I was a little wary.

The Coby is solid and easy to use. You can scan through the entire FM band, so even though I range over more than 100 miles, I've always been able to have a station.

The sound is good. Like any other cabled transmitter, if you bump the wire you will hear the crackle, but otherwise, it is clear.

One of the best features is that you still have access to the 12v ("cigarette lighter") power outlet. That means I can use my Coby and plug in my GPS or charge my Kindle at the same time.

I recommend it as an easy-to-use, reliable way to access your audio in the car.

Customer Review: GREAT sound - and it's saving our sanity! :-D

We bought this product specifically for hooking our DVD player to, so we could have the movie sound coming through the rear speakers of our van. We figured this would be preferable to having the kids hassling with the wires of headphones and the worry of whether they would have the volume too loud. NOT using anything wasn't an option, since the DVD player is mounted to the ceiling right between the driver and passenger, and to have it loud enough for the kids to hear it was driving my hubby and I crazy! We had a different FM transmitter but there was too much artifact noise and that bothered us a lot. The Coby transmitter is perfect; great because it piggybacks the DVD plug and there is such a minor amount of artifact noise it's canceled out by the engine and road noise. I can't say enough about how satisfied we are with this product, especially since it was among the least expensive transmitters. Thanks, Coby!!

Customer Review: Best FM transmitter ever!
Summary: 5 Stars

When I went from a Sansa to a Zune, I needed a new transmitter because my old one was also a charger and only works with the Sansa.

I tried a few but ended up with this one and I'm so happy. I've had it for at least 6 months and I've never even had to find a frequency other than 87.9! It is great to use because it is out of the way, and be folded any old direction. I live in Metro Atlanta and almost never have static, and the pass-through port that allows me not to lose the power outlet is a real bonus!

All the Zune-specific fm transmitters seemed to have really bad reviews, so I got this one and I'm delighted with it. I have only one small complaint and It doesn't even bother me because I'm in a minivan and it's out of my sight line, but the lighting on the unit is very bright and that could be a problem for some folks in smaller vehicles on dark nights. Not a bad problem!

Customer Review: Amazing performance at a great price!
Summary: 4 Stars

Previously i had a Belkin iPod FM car transmitter which i believe cost around $30-40. It was horrible! Every station i would try to put it on was 70% static. You could barely hear the music over the static. I even tried putting the transmitter next to the radio, next to my cars antenna, no difference. I ended up throwing it away cuz it was just crap. A friend told me about this Coby one. He brought it along one time to test it out in my car. I couldn't believe how clean it was. There was little to no static! So i bought one. I gotta tell ya i am VERY impressed at how low the static to music ratio is. Seriously there is very little static coming from it. When you are playing music, you can't hear any static whatsoever! It sounds pretty close to a direct input corded adapter. So for the price, I HIGHLY recommend this FM transmitter, it is a steal at $[...]. It definitely rivals more expensive units.

Customer Review: Item defective after 3 days of use
Summary: 2 Stars

The Transmitter performed well in sending the signal to my radio. It completely drowned out any radio interference. The sound quality was OK, but I'd recommend the Monster Transmitter for a richer sound even though the Coby transmitter sends out a stronger signal.

My problem is that the Coby died after 3 days. Part of its appeal is that you can plug another device into its Cigarette Lighter Adapter. When I plugged an air compressor in the socket to fill my tires, it blew out the Coby transmitter which won't even power on.

Since it was still under warranty, I could send it back to Coby if I include a money order to cover shipment. This annoys me. Why do I have to pay even more for a defective product? I'll eat the shipping cost to return it, but Coby should eat the shipping cost to replace it.

In any event, I bought the Monster transmitter which is performing better IMHO.
