Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby CA-745 Wireless FM Car Transmitter with Digital Display and DC Car Cigarette Lighter AdapterCustomer Review: Great product with quality problems Summary: 2 Stars
I have owned my Coby CA-745 for just two months now and I have made two wiring repairs to the unit already. After a couple of weeks I had the same problem that is noted in other reviews. Every time I moved the wire connecting the unit to my MP3 player there a was terrible and LOUD crackling noise. Even hitting a small bump in the road would do it. I corrected this problem by replacing the plug connector on the end of the audio cord. A couple of weeks afterward, the unit would not stay powered up reliably. After investigating, I figured out that a wire had come loose inside the power plug of the Coby and it would make contact intermittently. A little bit of solder and that problem was resolved. I realize that most people would have sent it back for warranty but I actually liked the unit so well that I did not want to be without it. I agree with another reviewer that if the quality problems of the unit were addressed the CA-745 would be an excellent buy for the money and would deserve 5 stars.
Customer Review: Worked Pretty Well for 5 Minutes Summary: 1 Stars
From the time that I removed this product from the packaging, I knew that I had probably made a mistake. The product looked like it had already been used to be honest. There was a little brown mark on the end of it and some scratches, including one very annoying scratch right on the digital display. In spite of that though, when I first plugged it in, it worked very well. Strong signal and reasonably good sound quality. However within five to ten minutes of listening, the unit began to produce popping sounds. I then noticed that it was intermittently turning on and off. Eventually it turned completely off. I tried replacing the fuse, tightening up the end cap, and tried it in a different cigarette lighter. None of that worked.
Considering the number of positive reviews, I may have just been unlucky and gotten a bad unit, but I would honestly recommend not taking a chance on this item. Go ahead and spend the additional $20 or so to buy something a little higher quality.
Customer Review: Something to be aware of Summary: 2 Stars
It does not fit 2003 Camry. I have to cut it a little bit to make it fit. I used a CD based mp3 player to feed the music to it. The problem is the CD is also powered from the cigarette lighter, put the power source at the FM transmitter generate a lot of interference. Latter I found the CD player has to be put away from the FM transmitter or it will generate extra back ground noise which is not tolerable to me. I also tried use my phone to feed music to it, because the phone is powered by battery, the interference between the FM transmitter and phone is much smaller, but it is still there. Unless the unit I bought is faulty, the unit is very sensitive to outside interference.
I compared cassette adapter to the FM transmitter, cassette adapter has better treble and not sensitive to any outside interference, FM transmitter has more bass. I prefer cassette adapter because it is closer to CD quality. It is unfortunate that my cassette player only works when it is cool.
Customer Review: Very Surprised Summary: 5 Stars
I have a mazda with and integrated Nav System, so I am unable to install any after market system. Very frustrating to say the least, because I had no way to hook my iphone into the system(no cassette or jack inputs).
I have gone thru a few fm transmitters and they all found their way to the garbage, the static and drifting were un-listenable. After reading a few good reviews I decided to roll the dice for 17 bucks and give it a try.
I am surprised at the quality of sound and the clarity. Yes there is some static at pauses and low points, but they are totally acceptable. I live outside NYC with very crowded radio stations and overhead power lines near my home and the unit works great. I have just drove into the city and back (60) miles and the unit never drifted or faltered. For the money, its worth the try, I know, your thinking what I thought, COBY, c'mon. But you will be pleasantly surprised. By the way, i use station 104.9 but you have your choice of any.
Customer Review: Best Solution Summary: 5 Stars
I don't normally write reviews unless I am polarized one way or another but I feel compeled to comment on the Coby CA-745.
I was hesitant to buy this product due to Coby not having a stellar reputation but this thing really works well with my Zune.
Keep in mind that it may have static for the first few minutes. I remember reading a review where someone stated that it was static electricity. When I first plugged it in I thought "crud, it doesn't sound good at all" but, once I unplugged it and plugged it back in it sounds great. Fits perfectly in my Mercedes and Honda van.
Not sure why so many people with Toyotas are having issues with fit. Also, I have read a lot of reviews where it sounds like peoples stereos are at fault or at least the user is at fault. Sounds like a id 10 t problem.
It always bugged me that I couldn't enjoy my mp3 music in my car. Now I can jam out to The Sword and Lamb of God anytime I want.
