Customer Review: Great MP3 Player for the money

I walk for exercise and wanted a cheap very light MP3 player I could carry with me on my daily walks. This little guy is perfect for me. Super cheap, holds over 100 of my favorite songs (all MP3 files). Uses only 1 AAA battery and I use a lithium AAA to get maximum play time. If I lose it, it is not a big deal at a cost of less than $20. Loud enough I can hear it well but not so loud my ears hurt. No complaints.
I give 4 stars instead of 5 only because the user interface is unnecessarily complicated. This is one device where you must, repeat must, read the owner's manual prior to using. If you try to figure it out on your own you may waste a week. To turn it on for example you have to press and hold the play button. That is also how you turn it off. There is nothing marked "on" or "off." The main problem I had at first was that neither my laptop (Vista) nor my old desktop (XP) would recognize this player, which prevented me from loading it with MP3 files off my computers. Fixed that problem when I discovered this thing has 2 USB data modes - MSC and MTP. Switched to MTP mode and now computers recognize it fine.
Comes with backlight and auto power off features (power off can be set to 2, 10 or 30 minutes idle), volume control, repeat mode and more. Also has a locking switch that disables the other controls so that your songs or settings do not get accidently changed if, for example, you are carrying the thing in your pocket. Earphones are nothing to brag about but adequate for me.
Considering the super cheap price of this thing I am very happy. I do not need one of the $200 MP3 players that cuts grass and makes toast plus does my laundry. I just wanted a super cheap MP3 player that would allow me to listen to 100 or so of my favorite songs while walking around getting my exercise. Would buy again if needed. But I do recommend if you get this thing that you invest in some good AAA size lithium batteries. Otherwise, depending on how much you listen and play with it, this thing could become a battery eating monster using the cheap alkaline batteries.

USB 2.0
