Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby 1.5-Inch Digital TFT LCD Photo Keychain DP151WHT (White)Customer Review: How to get the Device and Software to Work. Read This First!!! Summary: 2 Stars
How to make it work! Please read first!
1. Install PhotoViewer software from CD
Note: DO NOT run PhotoViewer program yet - it will just fail if the keychain is not plugged-in.
2. After software install is done, plug-in the keychain to the PC using the USB cable. PUSH IT IN UNTIL YOU HEAR IT 'CLICK'. It is a little 'hard' to push, but it will 'click' when inserted all the way - with pretty much the black just showing.
3. On the keychain highlight "USB Update" (hit one of the left/right buttons) and action it (press the middle button)
Note: Now on the PC you must see "Installing Driver" bubble or something is wrong - the device is NOT connected. You might not get the bubble with the provided USB cable. I switched to another USB cable I had already (from my camera) and it worked - I got the "Installing Driver" bubble.
4. Now run "PhotoViewer" (from the icon on the Desktop of Start Menu->All Programs->PhotoViewer)
Note: If the PhotoViewer program opens then it can see the keychain correctly.
Now, follow the instructions enclosed on how to select, crop and "download" photos to the keychain.
Customer Review: Found the Problem Summary: 4 Stars
I also could not get Windows XP to recognize this device and I work in IT! However, after trying my own cable - things worked just fine. When I checked the cable they provided with the keychain - the end that connects to the keychain didn't fit correctly - I had to push very hard and hear a CLICK and not see any of the silver part between the cable and the keychain. It should fit very snugly. Once I did this - that cable also worked. I believe this may be the main problem people are having because even with the cable not connected properly - the screen shows the options to charge or update the keychain - thus you think it is actually working.
So try following these steps:
1. Install the software
2. Reboot the PC
3. Connect the cable to the keychain - make sure it is pushed all the way in!
4. Connect the other end of the cable to the PC
5. Select "Update" on the keychain
6. If the software doesn't start up automatically at this point - just start the program yourself by double clicking on the software ICON or via the start menu
I hope this saves some people a lot of time :-)

Customer Review: good gift Summary: 3 Stars
i have windows XP and had no trouble at all. i don't like that you can only charge it on a computer. and i didn't pay the price it says here - i got it on black friday for $12 and it was worth it. photo quality isn't wonderful but it is good enough for what you pay for. the menu is easy to navigate, the photos are super easy and quick to upload, all you have to do is install the program, plug in the keychain and choose to put photos on it, then open the program, add the photos and crop them so the pictures don't distort to the shap the screen is. quick and easy - i don't see how so many people had such troubles. it suggests you fully charge it (for 4 hours) before using it on it's own. i've found it doesn't take that long to charge it, but just to make sure i kept it on for the first charge for 4 hours. again, i really don't like that you can only charge it through a computer (I got this gift for a truck driver) so I'll try to search for a different charger but don't have high hopes to find one. i also think this is a great stocking stuffer.
def. worth $12 that i paid - not so much $22 and certainly not $30!
Customer Review: Poor software Summary: 2 Stars
The LCD display is horrible. It has a very shallow angle of view and poor contrast. But then that is to be expected for a $10 gizmo.
What was unexpected was the poor software.
1. The device does not appear to the computer as a standard USB storage device (unlike all cameras, mp3 devices, etc.) This means it needs special software to load images onto it (annoying). Plus the software doesn't work on all operating systems (e.g. Linux).
2. There is no auto-off timer (e.g. turn off after 10 minutes of display). The device has poor battery life (4hrs) and if accidentally turned off in the pocket, will drain to 0.
3. Turning the device off requires two button presses -- a horrible user interface. Pressing and holding the power button, as suggested in the manual, does not turn off the device.
4. The device can be set to display the time with the photo, however, it *only* supports 24h time mode (i.e. 13:00 instead of 1:00pm).
Overall, extremely poor software. And combined with the low quality hardware, it is something not worth the shipping cost let alone the price.
Customer Review: Never worked Summary: 1 Stars
Sadly, you can't rate somthing ZERO (or I would've!) I was really looking forward to getting this item as a gift for my mom. I thought it would be great for her to carry around digital photos of the kids, grandkids, etc. Unfortunately, the unit NEVER WORKED. I tried to install the software provided (I followed the manual step-by-step) and my computer would not recognize the device. I went to Coby's website (as indicated in the troubleshooter protion of the owner's manual) but found no FAQs regarding this type of device. I did, however, find a software download for this model number, so downloaded that and installed it. My computer will STILL not recognize the device so I called tech support. A very unenthusiastic woman talked down to me for a few minutes before finally telling me that they "have a lot of customers calling with this complaint" and I should just return it and try a new one. She was basically NO help to me (and a bit rude with the patronizing tone). I'm returning it and don't think I'll bother with a new one. I'll find some other clever gift for mom. Thanks for nothing, Coby.
