Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby 1.5-Inch Digital TFT LCD Photo Keychain DP151WHT (White)

Customer Review: LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got one of these the other day and figured I'd have a heck of a time trying to figure it out...but I didn't. I plugged it into the laptop on the way home, and by the time I pulled into my driveway I was showing off photos!

I didn't expect the screen to be backlit at the price that I paid, so when I turned it on I was surprised! The images look clear and are in color. Wish the battery lasted longer, though. I'd really just love to leave this unit running constantly as an eye-catcher.

I know about screen scratches, so what I did was went to the dollar store (a while back) and bought some packaging tape. This is wide and clear. I cut a square of it and carefully laid it over the screen. Bingo! If it gets scratched, I just replace the tape!

What I like about this is that you can save different sets of photos. Christmas time, you can have Christmas photos, and so on. And it shows jpeg, bmp, and gif.

I got this because I was tired of powering up my laptop to show photos. This way, I just have to dig my keys out of my briefcase and push a button to turn on this nifty little gadget.

I was tickled. Everybody in the world should get one of these! :o)

Customer Review: AWESOME Digiital photo frame
Summary: 5 Stars

I Love this little LCD photo display the pictures look great.. Before getting this (or putting on my wish list I looked at the reviews good and bad...so I was kind of worried...)
You have to be a little computer savvy to operate the software program...for some reason the message I kept getting when I would click on the photo viewer program was that the program was managed by another?
I was confused by that message and I almost gave up but then I was looking at my computer in the right hand corner where I see the little icon about safely disconnecting mass storage devices I saw that the device was connected to the computer and when I clicked on the software program it opened right up and I downloaded 17 pictures and then I wanted to add 14 more....
But it doesn't work that way...what happened was that it replaced the 17 I had on there....so I had to redo the whole thing and right now I have 32 pictures on there and they look GREAT!
So I bought 3 more of these... I was going to give them away to love ones but I might just keep them...:-)
Coby DP-151 1.5" Digital Photo Keychain

Customer Review: Keychain USB port is poorly designed, and this product's downfall
Summary: 1 Stars

Keychain USB port is poorly designed. I tried to connect to my computer (Mac OSX Snow Leopard, although irrelevant). Nothing appeared on the desktop, although keychain screen read that the USD cable was connected. I called Coby costumer service, who required my name, number and address before helping. The rep I spoke with said the port on the keychain was very sensitive and needed to be pushed in really hard to hear a click. I heard a click, but still nothing. After a minute of forcing, it finally appeared on the desktop and I was able to download the software that comes on the key chain. (The software works on Snow Leopard with no problem, although not very slick.) Then I lost the connection w/the keychain. I tried again to push and wiggle the cable in the port and then the pin broke off in the key chain. I pulled the remains out and briefly tried another cable I had, then decided I did not want to go through this every time my kids wanted to change the pictures on their key chains.

I hope I can find a working replacement because now that my kids know such a product exists and they had one for a brief moment they love the idea of showing their friends their photos on a tiny little screen!

Customer Review: Works perfectly!

Not sure why so many people are having issues; I installed this device on a Dell 9100 PC running WinXP Pro SP3 with all current hotfixes and patches. My Dell recognized the device immediately, loaded the appropriate drivers, and asked for a reboot. After the reboot, it came up as a drive. Opening the drive, I ran the software and was able to load 60 photographs in a manner of seconds. This is a birthday gift for my daughter-in-law (a new mother,) and I just added a dozen pics of my new granddaughter.

For the price, you can't beat this with a stick. Perhaps there's an issue between XP Home and XP Pro. If you're having issues with this device, I suggest:

1. Disconnect it from your PC;
2. Launch IE and select Windows Update
3. Make sure you have SP3 and all hotfixes/rollups.
4. Reattach device to your PC, allow it to detect and then reboot, even if it doesn't ask you to.
5. After reboot, the device should show up as a hard drive in your "My Computer" icon.

The above is for WinXP; I have no idea what to do for Vista or Win7, but I think the process above will work for XP, VistaSP1 and Win7x.

Good luck!

Customer Review: Pulse: Good product but not excellent
Summary: 4 Stars

I'm satisfied with the product, the photos look very well and have good screen resolution. Also it's very small and compact so it's easy to carry hanging with keys, in pocket or wherever you want. The only thing I don't like is the plastic quality which is cheap and makes a not so attractive look to the product. I guess it's not so resistant. The software is very easy to use and dummy-free. If you don't have the software, you'll have a useless digital keychain. Simply drop it because you won't have any chance to recover that program, there is no website to download it. The keychain won't work anymore without that program. Also be careful if windows report the connected device as unformatted, simply ask NO. NEVER FORMAT IT, BE CAREFUL. The plastic packaging protects the product very well, also from water which is a good idea. Other complain is that I got only one out of three I bought defective. I wonder if it was caused by the shipping or it was released bad from factory. I think it's a good product to resell and very nice for a gift but I'll think twice before buying it again. May there are some other better products of the same kind with better quality (..and support).
