Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Coby 1.5-Inch Digital TFT LCD Photo Keychain DP151WHT (White)Customer Review: Great gadget for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I bought three of these devices for the Grandparents, so far I am happy.
I have a 3 year old computer with XP.
Advice to people on how to install:
1. Install the software from the disk. Do not open program at this time.
2. Plug cable into both the device and computer
3. The keychain turns on automatically.
4. Choose USB charge for a couple hours.
5. Unplug from computer and turn off by pressing middle button to call up menu and then pushing middle button again.
6. Plug cable into both the device and computer and wait for device to power up.
7. Choose USB update by pressing left button and the middle button
4. Wait for your computer to recognize the device. Several messages could appear. Be patient if you have a slower computer.
5. Open software program.
As for the picture quality, it is only 1.5 inches. This is small, only slightly bigger then my cell phone. However I think the quality is better than my cell phone (a Nokia that is 16 mnths old).
For the price and the reason I bought these (to give my parents pictures of the grandbaby to carry all the time), I am very happy. I plan on preinstalling a bunch of pictures. Hopefully they will follow the instructions above and be able to add more pictures as the little one grows up.
Customer Review: Great for the price Summary: 4 Stars
For $11 you can't expect much but this is great. It may not be hi-def but the pictures are very clear.
In regards to getting it to work. At first it didn't work for me. I plugged it in, installed the software and it said something about not finding a photoviewer. I thought, what the frick it is connected. So I figured like everyone else it doesn't work. But after it charged and I plugged it back in I noticed the little menu on the photoviewer itself with two options: Charge and Update. It needs to be in USB Update mode. Then XP finds it and it works like a charm! I think when you first get it it goes right into charge mode. The little manual says it needs to be charged first.
It is a drag that you can't just drag photos onto it (sorry about that) and you have to use their software. But there is good reason. The viewer display size is different from what my camera takes so the entire picture does not show in the photoviewer display. There are editing features (limited) in the software so that you can select part of the picture that will fit in the photoviewer display. There is also a rotate feature.
For the limited software and sizing issue I rate it a 2, for its size and what it does for $11 I give a 5. So overall I think it is worth 4 stars.
Customer Review: Coby DP-151 Digital Photo Keychain Summary: 3 Stars
Alright, I spent some pepsi points for this, so I am not going to gripe to much about it. HOWEVER I will say, that at least PART OF THE PROBLEMS some people have been having, are due to the Poor Quality USB Cord itself. If you have an old USB cord from a Camera, I say pitch the one that came with the Coby DP-151 and use it, instead.
Yes the software does indeed work with XP, but it sure would NOT WORK with the supplied USB Cord!! The 1st try with the different cord made all the difference in the world.
The picture quality is alright, and easily worth the $9.99 it sells for now. I just got this Coby DP-151, and I have not tested the length of the battery life yet, but I will.
Again, PITCH the USB cord supplied with the Coby DP-151 and get a different one.(Remember one end will need to be small to fit into the Coby DP-151 itself)
This should help many people who heed these words, many many hours of waiting for a beep (which i never heard) and plugging and replugging in the USB cord to your computer.
BTW, I am a PepsiHolic, but the items available in this promotion are a far cry from the original pepsi Points. I sure hope the next pepsi point promo has better items like the Original Pepsi Point Promo from the 1990's.
Customer Review: Software doesn't work!! Summary: 1 Stars
I bought 2 of these, one for me, one for my mother in law for Christmas. I loaded the software, was able to load 10 pics, then it wouldn't work anymore. I spent 15 minutes getting a CSR from Coby on the phone and he spent 30 minutes having me try different stuff. He had me delete the software and go to their website and download software there. It worked for 2 pics while I was on the phone with him, but then wouldn't do anything after that. Now the software won't even open on my computer. Tried it on my husband's computer, and it won't open on it either. I'm tired of dealing with it. I'm taking them both back.
EDIT****
I just tried the following after reading it in another review and it finally worked! You would think the CSR from Coby could have told me this. Here's the quote from the other review.
"I had a hard time making this work on my (Vista) computer but the key was to 1) install the software 2) plug in the key chain via the USB and 3) select update FROM THE KEY CHAIN SCREEN. That opens the PhotoViewer program so that you can add photos to the key chain. If you try to open the program directly from the desktop or from the start menu you get an error message. This should be more clearly explained but it did solve my problems."
Customer Review: Follow ALL of the directions and it works great Summary: 4 Stars
I needed a gift idea within a certain price range for a coworker for our annual office pollyanna. I stumbled across this and thought it was a great idea, seeing as he and his wife just had their first child this week. I was a little wary about purchasing it because of all the bad reviews, but I tried it out last night and am now so excited to give it to him!
When I first installed the program (I have Windows XP), it wouldn't open. Then I realized there were two options for the program in my Start menu. When I tried the second one, it said it couldn't find the device. I was frustrated because I had bought this after reading the reviews and it was a waste of money, just like everyone said. I flipped over the instructions and saw that there were more things I had to do. The computer must be restarted and the "USB Update" option must be selected on the device for it to work! I loaded on a few of my pictures to see how they would turn out. The software is so easy to use, and the pictures looked surprisingly great. I'm thinking of buying a few more to give to my sister and my boyfriend's sisters.
This is great for the price, and as long as ALL of the directions (front and back of the sheet) are followed it's easy to use.
