Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of COBY MP-C841 MP3 Player w/256 MB Flash Memory & USB Drive

Customer Review: Great Product For The Money
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought one of these about a month ago and so far so good. The direct USB connection makes it easy to upload music. If you have Windows XP, then there's no software needed; you just plug it in and a folder opens up. Putting music on this thing is as simple as dragging and dropping your favorites onto the folder. The instruction manual isn't much help, but instructions are probably worthless if you possess a little common sense. You can't play M4A (Ipod) songs, but it still plays MP3 and WMA, so it's still a good buy. It holds 256 MB (about 120 songs). It's not neccesarily top of the line, but for $50 - $60 it's definitely a solid pick up. I recommend checking it out.

Package includes Installation CD, Instruction Manual, USB Cable, Neck Strap Ear Phones, and One AAA Battery.

Customer Review: COBY MPC841 Good, but still lacking
Summary: 3 Stars

I received one of these as a gift, and already had some things to note. The manual is awful. Its clearly "Engrish". The only real problems I see with this MP3 player (aside from coming out of the box with a corrupt firmware easily fixed with a hot-key reset and reinstalling the firmware) is that it does not work with Audible.com.

This was a replacement for an old RCA Lyra which does work with Audible.com. It's also not on the Plays For Sure site, so I have to test it with my DRM content (secured audio for work)which the Lyra also played.

Basically, for a plain-MP3 PLayer/Recorder, its good. If you use anything that employss ecurity for audio, it has a lot of room for improvement. Hopefully these will be addressed in a future firmware upgrade though.

Customer Review: The Best Cheap Mp3 player for MAC or PC
Summary: 5 Stars

I had this for 1 1/2 years. I am a MAC person. So I wanted the cheapest MAC compatible player out there. IT WORKS EXCELLENT!! For both types! No reformating of the drive, you stick in a MAC it reads it or stick in a PC it reads it. You can't use Itunes with it but the software in the box works fine. It does the job. You get what you pay for which is true. Simple to use and drag and drop and your done. I use this for work as well (transport files).
TIP: if does fail go to the website and get the FIRMWARE UPDATE. I had mine freeze up b/c I snatch it right out of the port rushing to meet an appointment. I got the update and it works again, Great!
PS I have a NanoPod too, this is COBY player is still a great value.

Customer Review: Horrible, horrible product AND customer service.
Summary: 1 Stars

I had this item for about a month before it started screwing up -- the mp3 player wasn't working right -- some songs that are definitely mp3 format won't play, and all the menus are messed up -- the text on the menus is totally gone, so a blind guess is all you've got if you want to change any format/playback options! spend more money and get something more dependable! Coby charges $6 for replacement and apparently doesn't give refunds (all I could get from customer service was generic emails), making it not-worth-the-trouble-or-money to send back. THEN, after another 4 months, the product won't even work as a USB drive to store anything. This is an AWFUL product, and the company is impossible to deal with.

Customer Review: You get what you pay for
Summary: 1 Stars

Basically this is a cheap item that should not be purchased. You can spend a little more and get a nicer and better equipped item. I bought this for my young daughter to download only minimal amounts of music so I thought for the price, this would be fine. However, it simply would not download songs. It continually 'locked up'. When it would finally download, the ear piece had static throughout. Finally, upon downloading one CD, you were forced to erase that CD to download another. I have sent this back to the manufacturer for a refund. Upon telling the salesperson about my reasoning for returning the product, there was no questions. This is probably commonplace for this product.
