Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cobra CPI 1575 1500 Watt 12 Volt DC to 120 Volt AC Power Inverter

Customer Review: Good inverter for the price.
Summary: 4 Stars

I installed this inverter in our van, primarily so we could play Xbox 360. It had no problem powering the game console and a 19" LCD monitor for the people in the back, as well as a laptop in the passenger seat while also charging someone's phone or mp3 player via the USB port. I had been concerned about the length of the cables I used, since the manual suggested no more than around 4' and I had to run almost 8' of cable to the battery and was afraid it might not get enough voltage. Fortunately, even with the longer-than-suggested cables it had no problems.

The only thing is, getting this sucker installed was a beast. It didn't come with the fuse (required!) so I had to order a fuse kit and have it shipped to a friend's house in Chicago, where we picked it up. Then, as it it turns out, running thick cables through a van's doghouse and attaching them to the battery and installing an inline fuse is somewhat more difficult than you might think. In hindsight, if we'd have had the money, it probably should have been done by a professional, instead of by me in the parking lot of a dead mall somewhere between Columbus and Circleville, Ohio. But if you've got a couple hours and a hardware store nearby, it can be done.

Customer Review: Works well, low voltage alarm at 11.3 V
Summary: 4 Stars

This inverter can really put out the power. The low voltage alarm comes on at 11.3 Volts which is stated in the manual supplied with my unit. However, there are several online manuals which state the low voltage alarm signals at 10.5 V. Somewhere along the way they have updated the product and/or manual. I needed a wire length of 3 ft @ 4 GA to run 1200 watts off of a standby battery bank otherwise the low V alarms kicks in. Tested to 1500 watts and it will do it no problem. The fans never kicked in and the unit did not become even warm at 1200 watts for 10 minutes with an air temp of 25F. Longer run times would probably warm the unit up and turn on the fans.

Customer Review: Solar System
Summary: 4 Stars

The first unit I bought was suspicious from the beginning.
When the input voltage was 12V it complained that the voltage was too low and therefore it shutdown.
Needless to say, it failed a short while after.
I received a replacement unit from Amazon, and this one is working the way it should.
The inverter is a little sensitive on the low current side, but it works.
I love the digital voltage display.
The watt meter is not accurate at low power consumption, but gives a more realistic reading at higher power consumption levels.

Customer Review: Great price, fast delivery, quiet , works
Summary: 4 Stars

Item is quiet and has low no load current draw. Mine was <.2 amp battery draw when on and 0 when off. Worked as advertized but you cannot measure AC voltage with a cheap meter as it will read 20-30 VAC low because of the modified sine wave. The documentation is barely adequate in that it doesn't answer the most common questions. One has to go on-line to the Cobra site. Also the Power out in watts doesn't indicate until you get over 100 watts and then only in multiples of 100 with the display showing only 2 digits ie: 10 =100 20 =200 etc. Documentation did not explain this or I would have given it 5 stars. Also it doesn't work on a small craftsman floresent shop light. It won't light the bulb. Only blinks. I suspect there are other limitations because of the modified sine wave but I am happy with the price for the quality. I choose it over the cheap harbour freight models that had poor reviews for about the same price. My next inverter will be a pure sine wave inverter as even though this one says 3000 watt peak, it will still not start larger than 1/2 HP motors that fall within its specs. The documentation does confirm this.

Summary: 5 Stars

very efficient and quiet. i have used many inverters in the past but this brand is what i will buy from now on.other brands' fan starting to go right away contributing to drainage of your battery.the cobra cpi 1575 starts only when it needs to and i am yet to see it heat up for a need for the fans to come on.buy this model and you'll not be dissappointed.
