Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Clarity Professional PL100 Personal Listener PlusCustomer Review: hope Summary: 4 Stars
After trying several amplifiers, the Clarity PL100 listener is to me the best in the mid price range. The descriptions of it's performances are accurate. The quality of the sound, the weight, and the one ear earphone make it discret and pleasant to use. We called it Grandma's Pod, look is very important to her.She return a pair of earring aid (4000 euros) after receiving the PL 100 I am not joking!
I bought two PL100 listeners for elderly relatives (89 & 90 years old) and it does requires the manipulation of small parts. Also the power charger is for US/110V only, unlike cameras and cellular phones. For travelers or customers abroad you need to purchase an additional international charger or power reducer (15 dollars, on the web)and additional set of rechargeable batteries...this is a Pain. In a world of technology, of smaller computers and miniature electronic gadgets, while we are living longer, why is so difficult to find a store,to compare, and try a personal listener/amplifier/earing aids ? Thanks to Clarity and Amazon.
Customer Review: Good for the price Summary: 4 Stars
I was a little hesitant after poor review stating that the unit didn't work right out of the box, but I went ahead and gambled the $46. To my disappointment, the unit showed exactly the same symptoms described by the other reviewer. The thing would work for a couple of seconds and cut out. After trying non-rechargeable batteries and various combinations of buttons I happened to take a closer look at the battery cover. It's here where I found the problem... at the very top of the battery compartment there are the usual + and - symbols, so I put the batteries in so that the symbol matched the part of the battery that was outward facing. But looking at the cover the symbols were reversed.... what was meant was that the symbol on the device was actually the end of the battery meant to be buried int he device and the symbols on the inside of the little cover were the outward facing ends. Once I reversed the batteries and charged them, the unit worked as described.
Customer Review: This little amplifier saved the day Summary: 5 Stars
My husband has 50% hearing in one ear, no hearing in the other. So when his hearing aide quit working the week before an important meeting, it was a big deal! With the hearing aide sent back for repairs, I searched the web and found this Clarity Personal Listener. The seller (an Amazon seller) went out of their way to get it to us quickly.
The device doesn't take the place of his $2,000 programable hearing aide, but it does work exactly as it claims to work- it amplifys sound, has a limited adjustment range for "tone" and is fairly inconspicuous when tucked in a shirt pocket. My husband even cut a hole in the back of his shirt pocket and threaded the earpiece wire through it so it wouldn't be noticable. It helped him get through the day-long meeting. The only trouble he had was during lunch when there was alot of background noise that made it difficult to hear the conversation.
The Clarity Personal Listener saved the day.
Customer Review: failed immediately, cheap Summary: 1 Stars
Purchased this to aid an elderly relative who was very hard of hearing. The extended mic cord is designed (and pitched) as a great way to enjoy TV audio.
After initial charging the unit worked for 1-2 minutes then quit. It came with generic no-name rechargable batteries, so I purchased new set (incl extra for the charger base). Again, same thing only this time it never came back.
The unit has a cheap feel to it; the controls seem insubstantial (power button may have been the problem??). The few seconds it worked it was pretty good, but for someone already hard of hearing, the failures would be extremely frustrating to work out.
NYC Electronics did RMA and refunded my credit card. Curiously, I asked for replacement or refund and they chose refund which leads me to believe I wasn't the only customer having trouble.
Customer Review: Guardedly delighted Summary: 4 Stars
I purchased this product with some trepidation because the other reviews I saw called it tinny and junk. But it was sold through enough reputable places and offered such a promising solution to my aged and cheap ("I'm not going to pay $5000 for a hearing aide; how many years do you think I have left?") aunt's hearing loss that I decided to give it a try. My aunt is virtually deaf, but this product could be turned so loud that she asked me to turn it down. For the first time in two years I could carry on a normal-voice-level conversation; I didn't have to scream in her ear. And her perception of what I said was 100% accurate as opposed to about 50% when I was screaming.
The product does not strike me as very durable, but it is not junk either. So far -- a few weeks of irregular use -- it has been 100% reliable.
