Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cheetah Mounts Plasma LCD Flat Screen TV Articulating Full Motion Dual Arm Wall Mount Bracket For 32-65" Displays Up To 165LBS Black With 10' High Speed HDMI Cable With Ethernet Fits Up To 24" StudsCustomer Review: Ther Perfect Balance of Price, Quality and Functionality Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this wall wount for my 52" Sony Bravia LCD which weighs about 80 lbs and it worked out perfectly. The cost was $69.99. First of all the mount that arrived was as pictured on the Amazon website and it is solidly constructed and comes with an abundance of hardware for mounting. I was able to use the 4 supplied lag bolts to go directly into the 16" spaced studs behind the wall. The holes on the back of the mount allow a deviation of from about 14" to 17" spacing of the wall studs. It was simple to predrill the holes so that the mount would be level and easily screwed/bolted into the wall. DO NOT trust the built in level or the supplied level (bubble). These are inaccurate and you are better off using a 2 foot level to do the job. Also, be sure to hit the center of the stud which will typically be 3/4 inches in width; you want to be as close to the center of that piece of wood as possible. If you are installing into a masonry wall, the hardware is provided.
I was mounting it between two built-in wall units and wanted the LCD to be centered. This was not a problem despite the fact that the wall studs were not centered. The mount allows some flexibility for this in the way that the mounting holes are positioned along with the fact that the LCD can be "hung" off center.
Once the mount is secured to the wall and the mounting brackets are fastened to the LCD, two of us lifted the unit and hung it on the bracket without any trouble. Tightening two "set screws" secure the brackets of the LCD to the mount and it is ready to go. One other comment on the supplied washers: I agree with previous posters that they are flimsy. You can purchase heavier gauge ones or just double up on the supplied ones.
My wife and I love the articulating mount. It allows the LCD to be tilted left/right/down and pulled away from the wall if desired a fair number of inches. When pushed back all the way to the wall, the back of the LCD is about 4" away from the wall.
I believe the contruction and strength are more than adequate and the only comment on that is that the front mounting plate that holds the LCD could be a tad thicker (heavier gauge sheet metal). All in all, this mount does a lot, is easy to intall, is well made with above average construction and has a great price. I would recommend this product.
Customer Review: Don't FEAR the Cheetah Summary: 5 Stars
Is is strong enough? Yes it is. I have 80lb+ Plasma flat screen installed using the Cheetah. It is solid.
Is it difficult to mount? No it is not. I would not consider it easy, maybe in between difficult and easy. I am not a handy man. I usually read instructions, but in the case of the Cheetah I did not need them. Previous reviews correctly stated, the included directions for this unit are not much to look at. The documentation is not very good. However, common sense helps you put this thing together. And again, I'm no rocket scientest. Once the surface (you plan to mount it on) is prepared, it took me a couple of hours. I generally go slow, while trying not to make mistakes. I could see a handy man/woman person knocking this out in 45 minutes.
My personal tip 1: I centered the wall mount. It would have been better had I installed it off-center to the left a little. Why? Because the screen, when completely collapsed does not center with the wall mount. By making a few adustments I was able to get the screen centered. However, if I did it again I would be mindful of how the mount collapses against the wall, and would have mounted it a little to the left.
Is it priced right? It is priced on the low end, though the quality is on the high end. Its not the cheapest expansion mount they make. There are many more expensive mounts available, but I cannot see how the quality or design could be any better. I consider it a "Best Buy" value. And it looks like they just dropped the price again from when I purchase it.
My personal tip 2: Decide how much your unit can protrude from the wall. This one (expansion arm) extends beyond the standard (non-flexible) mount a few inches or less. This was not a problem for me as I was mounting on a fake fire place.
Huge advantage over standard mounts? Yes, I have owned for couple of weeks now and have already pulled it away from wall and made changes to some of the wires and plug-ins.
conclusion: I love it!
Customer Review: Installation recommendations Summary: 4 Stars
We have a 50" Panasonic plasma TV that we bought about 4 years ago. Since it's an older model it's quite heavy at over 100 pounds I was quite concerned about the strength of any mounting bracket we bought. After reading reviews of the fully articulated mounts for large TVs I settled on the Cheetah. I paid particular attention to the more negative reviews but concluded that the more expensive mounts could not be justified at 5 times the price of this one. That said, here are some comments regarding the unit:
1. It is very heavy and well constructed. Mounting may not be one person job.
2. There is a slight amount of sag with the arms fully extended.
3. The arms joints are quite stiff and do not just glide open. This was mentioned in several reviews. This is easily solver by applying some household oil to the
joints during installation.
4. The knobs that are used to lock the screen's tilt are poorly designed. The unit has holes in the tilt mechanism are designed for carriage bolts and the knobs
attach to the outside edge of the mount on the screw end of the bolt. The problems are that the carriage bolt provided is short (it doesn't reach from on side
of the tilt mechanism to the other), the knob is to small (to get any leverage to tighten it sufficiently) and the knob is located between the TV and bracket
in such a way that you really can't turn it. The solution to these issues is to get a 2" carriage bolt, flat washer, lock washer and nut for each side to replace
the knob and bolt provided. Install these through all the way through each tilt mechanism with the nut to the outside of the mount and tighten the nut down with
a socket wrench.
After applying the oil and replacing the knobs with better carriage bolts I have to say that I'm very pleased with this mount for the price. The manufacturer should
have resolver the design issue with the knob as it is a very inexpensive thing to fix.
Customer Review: Good mount, don't expect full extension Summary: 4 Stars
I used this mount to hang my 46 inch Panasonic Plasma. You may have other issues with other TVs so keep that in mind.
This mount went up as promised and mounted to the wall without too much hassle. You have to be slightly proficient at home projects to be able to find studs, drive the lag screws into the studs and keep everything level. The mounting plate has a level built in, but mine was not level itself, so I ignored it and used my own.
The first set of parts that I received were assembled incorrectly and I had to ask for a new set. I received a new set in the mail within days though, so bravo to the company for fixing their mistake ASAP.
Getting the attachments mounted to the TV was very easy. The included screws fit perfectly on my Panasonic.
I mounted the TV in the corner and put it at a 45 degree angle in the corner of the room. This worked out fine, but with one exception: if you extend either of the arms fully, the TV will sag to one side and will not be level. This might happen because the fully extended arm is not strong enough to keep that side of the TV up. But, it also could be a construction issue and happen to anyone that fully extends either arm. Again, this may be different if you have a lighter TV, but it didn't work out for mine to be that way. In the end it didn't matter, because my space was small enough to keep both arms from being extended fully. If you mounted this where one arm absolutly had to be extended fully, you might need to offset the wall plate to compensate, but this would mean the TV would be slanted the opposite way when the arms are not fully extended.
Bottom line: Good customer service: responded well to my e-mail requesting replacement parts, sent the parts 2nd day air when they realized their mistake. Sturdy mount, but may have tilt issue if you want to fully extend the arms.
Customer Review: Heavy Duty Mount; Cheap Hardware; Great Price Summary: 4 Stars
I looked at a lot of mounts and found most of them over priced for what they do (just hang there..). Even after reading the reviews that weren't so favorable for this mount because of the cheap hardware and poor instructions, I decided to buy it and give it a try. The price is just too good. Similar mounts at Best Buy or Sears were almost $200.
The box arrived pretty quickly and everything was there but one of the plastic knobs used to tighten the tilt angle was broken. It also looked like they sent two of the same brackets that mount directly to the TV. I had to take one apart and put it back together backwards so that the broken, plastic knob faced out and was accessible. I also krazy glued the knob back together. That was frustrating.
Like other reviews mention, the instructions are pretty sparse. Be prepared to measure (twice!) and figure out how to mount this thing on your own.
Other hardware issues:
-Anchors are bolts, not screws. You better have a ratchet set or a bit for your drill if you're buying this mount.
-The wing nuts that help control the tilt angle broke as I was hand tightening them. I'm not Superman, they're just garbage type cheap. I've never seen the wings fall off of these before. It was kind of funny.
-Mounting bolts to the TV were soft and the screw heads began to soften up after I took my power drill to them.
Even with all those issue, I LOVE this mount. It provides for a ton of movement and all the angles are easily adjustable. I would buy this again, even with all the hardware issues. It's super sturdy and should last a long time. I can replace the wing nuts for eighty cents.
Cheetah, if you're reading this, spend a few bucks more on better hardware. The mount is reasonably priced as is and a dollar or two more for better hardware is nothing.
