Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cheetah Mounts Plasma LCD Flat Screen TV Articulating Full Motion Dual Arm Wall Mount Bracket For 32-65" Displays Up To 165LBS Black With 10' High Speed HDMI Cable With Ethernet Fits Up To 24" StudsCustomer Review: Great mount, great price Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this product about a month ago and am so far extremely happy it with. It arrived on time and in excellent condition (no broken parts). This thing is well built, solid, and heavy-duty and you can't be the price! The most similar model I found was at Best Buy for @ $400. It's rare these days to find quality products, much less at a great price.
Per the hardware: The tilt tightening screws are poor quality - mine didn't break like others have mentioned, but they are stripped and are a pain to tighten & loosen - I am going to replace with something better. The rest of the hardware is not great but I was expecting this and so I purchased better hardware in advance - I used stainless steel lag bolts since I'm using this as an outdoor mount on my deck/ patio. The arms are difficult to maneuver but after some lubricant, they move with ease.
Install: I read all of the comments before purchasing and I was expecting the instructions to be very poor and set aside a big chunk of time for the install. I'm baffled on how people think this is difficult to install & I'm no engineer. While the instructions don't provide step-by-step pictures, they are very straight-forward and easy to follow. Honestly, you don't even need the instructions as this thing is a cinch to install (with a helper). You just need to make sure you're hitting the center in the studs and then it's as easy as hanging a picture (granted, a heavy one). Seriously, it took less than an hour and that included the time it took for the paint to dry (spray painted with a rust protection paint that matched my house exterior).
The TV does not sit level which is a little annoying. Following suggestions, I ensured the mount is level when fully extended during install; but the TV still is not level when mounted. Perhaps this is due to the mounting `hooks' on the TV, not the mount itself?
Summary: I am completely confident in this mounts ability to hold either my 32" or 50". I love this mount's maneuverability, functionality (holds a wide range of TV sizes) and ease of setting the TV. I also love that it has a small profile in that it virtually lays flat so that it is not noticeable or in the way when not in use. These factors are important to me since my TV will not be mounted 100% of the time.
Since I have it installed outdoors, I'll continue to monitor how it holds up to the weather. I live in the Midwest and we've had a ton of strong thunderstorms and rain this last month. Some of my trees haven't fared so well but so far, so good with the mount. How it functions in the spring following winter will be the true test.
Customer Review: Great mount, so-so instructions Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this mount to hang my 55" Sony above my fireplace. As other reviewers have noted, the mount is pretty heavy and you will be impressed with the amount of nuts and bolts that it comes with. You will NOT be impressed with the instructions. One of the first things it tells you to do is to drill four holes into studs. Pretty cut and dry, no best practice or anything really. This is what I recommend:
Put the arms on your tv FIRST!!!! The arms probalby will sit LOWER on your tv than you think. Once the arm is on, measure from the top of the hook piece on the arms to the top of the tv (for me this was 17") and to the bottom (13" for me). There isn't much adjustment to the arms (maybe one or two holes) so just pick one and moveon. Now when you PLAN on where are going to mount your tv (say over a fireplace), keep in mind the measurements from the top and from the bottom so you know where the tv will sit. I made the mistake of using holes that previous owners had which were WAY too high, I didn't account for the arms holding the tv higher (didn't measure).
When you drill the holes, if over a fireplace, pick the studs that are closet to center, if it's not center it's ok, you CAN slide the tv left and right to make up the difference. Use your studfinder to find the center of those studs. I would drill the top two holes first, mount the Cheetah, and then put in the bolts (while using the handheld leveler included in the packing, don't rely on the one permanently in the mount. Now extend the Cheetah arm and drill the bottom holes and put the bolts in.
Now hang the tv on the mount, slide the tv left and write on the mount to center it. Lock the allen wrench screws on the bottom to lock in the horizontal. Push the TV all the way and use a combination of the leveler and your own eyesight to determine the level. Using a socket wrench, there are four bolts on a plate on the arm that can be loosened. Once these are loose, you can tilt the tv CW or CCW to level it out, tighten the four bolts again. Now use the large black knobs to adjust the tilt.
NOTE that there is WAY more hardware included that you probably need AND the bits and pieces are all labeled wrong vs the instructions.
If you have a newer TV, you may not need anything besides the bolts for attaching to the wall.
I hope that these instructions help someone avoid the errors I made. I love the mount, it's pretty friggin heavy, but it's high quality and looks really good. I just wish the instructions were clearer.

WOW. I bought a cheetah mount that only tilts for my 52" SAMSUNG LCD TV. But the configuration of my living room/kitchen area had me thinking I'd rather go with an articulating wall mount, so I can turn it if I'm cooking or if I have people over on the sectional sofa I can turn it that (the opposite) way. So I bought this puppy (I kept the other tilting-only mount for my bedroom LCD TV which I haven't purchased yet). After taxes and S&H, it came out to $106. A similar product at BestBuy and hhgregg costs well over $300 (bestbuy has some that articulate and tilt that are up to $750!!!)
I'm a civil engineer, I work on designing things as a career. When I opened the box and saw the structural bulk of this thing, I was very impressed. I knew my brand new TV would be secure hanging from this thing. It came with a BUNCH of extra hardware in case you needed to use it (I ended up using the screws they supplied for the connection to the TV, since mine were too short). I also used their spacers to help ensure full thread engagement.
I wanted to install the TV on the wall and run the cables through the wall, so I had a lot of work cut out for me. Also, I live on a first floor condo unit, so my studs were in groups of 3 and only 12" apart. So I had to cut a whole in the drywall and add another adjacent stud to it. The lag screws they supplied are more than efficient. Just be sure to have the right sized screwdriver head to avoid stripping the heads.
Once I got the TV up I load tested it. I brought it out about 3/4 the total extension distance and first pulled down on it a bit. Then I slowly transferred all my weight to the mount. I heard a little bit of stress in the wood, but after all 215lbs of me was hanging from it, I knew that my 66 lb tv would be just fine. It's only upon writing this review that I see it's rated for 180 lbs. so it's a good thing that I didn't see that before load-testing it. (even though, being an engineer and all) I know things are derated all the time. The instructions were a little fuzzy, but it's still pretty easy to not screw up.
Feel free to ask me any questions about the TV or the wall mount, i'd be glad to answer.
Customer Review: Excellent mount Summary: 5 Stars
I used this mount for my 46" Toshiba LCD weighing 52 lbs. Everything with my mount came constructed as expected - all screws were included, no broken knobs, and the tv mounting plate is square with the wall mounting plate. The instructions are a little bare-bones, but it only takes a little bit of intuition to figure out what to use and how to do it. The package ships with a free magnetic 6" level, and the wall plate also has a bubble level built in - a nice touch. I did run to Home Depot to buy larger washers for the wall lag bolts - the included ones seemed a little small.
As others have pointed out, the mount is substantial - 30lbs of steel. This makes it heavy to hold up against the wall without a buddy, but I managed to solo mount the whole thing. Using a suggestion described by another, I extended the arms and placed the mount over my head so the wall plate was ~8" in front of my face (as was the built-in level), the arms were resting on my shoulders, and the tv plate was behind my head. I was able to screw in the top two lag bolts supporting the mount in this way; after that, the mount was secure enough on the wall to drill and screw in the other two lag bolts without additional support. From there, hanging the TV was as easy as stepping up on a footstool to get up to the right height.
Pretty easy to reposition (one arm is a little stiffer than the other, but it doesn't interfere with the motion) and feels really secure on the wall. Before attaching the TV, I was able to support nearly all my weight (180lbs) on the arms at 1/2 extension with barely so much as a creak; with a lightweight tv at just over 50lbs, I don't worry about this mount having any trouble.
Great price (half price on Amazon [$54+$19shipping] vs the manufacturer's website [$90+$30shipping]) and very fast shipping - came 2-day air from Arizona. I could not be more pleased with this purchase!
UPDATE: 6 months later - still holding strong! Advised to return the TV to the wall after you're done watching it if you have extended the arms out too far. I left my TV hanging out from the wall constantly when I first mounted it, and over time the hinges mid-arm have ever-so-slightly torqued under the extended weight. I still don't worry about the mount itself breaking - just don't see any reason to give it an opportunity to sag when it takes 5 seconds to reposition the TV when you're done.
Customer Review: Glad I bought this mount. Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first TV mount I've ever bought and to be honest I wasn't expecting it to be a great experience.
This is also my first time ever wall mounting a TV.
I read the reviews on the Amazon site and decided that this sounded like the mount I wanted.
I was impressed with the build quality of the mount, It felt strong enough to hold 10 times the weight of my 42" LCD. It's fairly heavy so you definitely want more than just drywall holding this mount onto the wall....lags into studs or concrete is recommended.
I was further impressed by the fact that while I expected flimsy or substandard mounting hardware and had already purchased what I thought were overkill for lag bolts, I found that a complete plastic rollout kit that included lag screws larger than what I even selected (1/4" I think), good sized butterfly anchors for drywall mounting (who would use these ?), concrete anchors and screws, and then a complete set of the most common bolts and spacers to connect the mount to your TV (5 or 6 different sets I believe).
The built-in level is nice for holding it to the wall and making sure your screws are level, but the side-to-side slide adjustment of the TV and the friction bolts to allow you to swist the mount slightly will allow you to correct any leveling mistakes. I ended up using my 2' and 4' levels to verify everything was level, but this allowed me to get it close enough. The little 6-8" magnetic level wasn't really of any use to me.
The hardest part of the whole install was holding the mount in place while puttin in the first 2 lag bolts. After that it was a breeze.
The TV then just hangs on 2 hooks to the mount plate and an allen bolt on the bottom of the TV hook ensures that it won't slide side to side once you tighten the allaen bolts. It isn't physically capable of falling off the mount plate unless you manually loosen the allen bolts several (15 - 30) turns (about 1.5" worth of turns) so you can put your mind at ease.
The mount rotates farther than I expected and folds flat against the wall (3" thick I beleive) when pushed straight back.
The tilt adjustment with the knobs is kind of simplistic, but I found that I didn't need to adjust the tild once I set it the first time anyway.
VERY GOOD MOUNT. WILL BUY CHEETAH MOUNTS AGAIN AND RECOMMEND THEM.
