Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of 1600mAh Extended Battery (Slim) fits HTC TyTN II / ATT Tilt 8925 / P4550 KaiserCustomer Review: Disappointed Summary: 3 Stars
I should start with a few informative statements here. I'm not just trying to be critical -- I had really hoped this battery would give me some improvement. Also, the battery I got was sold by Thebatterycenter, so batteries like this from other sellers might be just fine; I don't know.
My first impressions of this battery were mixed. It came in outdated packaging that referred to it as a camcorder battery! But the sticker on the battery itself said Replacement for TYTN II, so no problem. It also said 1600mAh, so I knew I had the right one. Excitedly, I placed the battery in my phone and turned it on. Charged at about 40%...reasonable enough. Plugged it in to start charging fully, and everything was fine. But within about half an hour, the light changed from amber to green, and the phone said 100% already. I thought it was a little strange, and sure enough when I unplugged it from the wall, ZAP -- it shut off. I messed with it for quite a while trying to figure it out, but in the long run I discovered that the battery's metal contacts were getting pushed in too far until the prongs of the phone couldn't even reach them. To make the battery work again, I actually had to peel back the stickers encasing the battery (DON'T try this at home... :D ) and insert two thirds of a toothpick behind the contacts to hold them in place. Needless to say, my battery was cheaply made and I was quite annoyed. But I made it work anyway!
Now, for the actual statistics. I wanted to see how this higher capacity would stack up against the stock battery. So I fully charged each one, and then turned on Wi-fi and started streaming NASA TV online in Windows Media Player. The idea was to do a quick and dirty test that would drain them as quickly as possible, so you'll get a lot more time out of your battery for daily usage than I did here.
Run times while streaming online video:
1600mAh replacement: 2 hrs, 38 mins
1350mAh stock from AT&T: 3 hrs, 10 mins
That means this "extended" battery actually gave me 17% LESS time than the original! Both batteries are Li-ion Polymer at 3.7V DC, so with 250mAh more I really can't understand why the new one performs so poorly. Especially since my stock battery is now 8 months old and doesn't last quite as long as it used to. And I've taken this new one through at least 3 charge/discharge cycles, so that shouldn't be the problem either.
On the positive side though, this battery definitely does fit inside the standard phone casing. It's actually a little thinner than the original, and perhaps even a bit lighter too. You can find other extended batteries that really would give you huge battery life, but they would make the phone incredibly fat. So I was glad to find one in the slim form factor.
Overall though, my experience with this product has definitely been disappointing. It's not a complete loss, since now I do have two batteries instead of one. But I really was looking forward to longer daily usage, and it doesn't look like this battery is going to help with that. So do your research carefully, and just know what you're getting.
Description of 1600mAh Extended Battery (Slim) fits HTC TyTN II / ATT Tilt 8925 / P4550 KaiserThe special extended battery for HTC TyTN II / AT&T Tilt 8925 / P4550 Kaiser / T-Mobile MDA Vario III / Vodafone v1615 / VPA Compact V is your answer to the shorter life of original KAIS160 battery that came with the PDA/cell phone model. We successfully making it to provide extra juices for the battery, up to 1600 mAh, compared with the original battery runs at 1300-1350 mAh. It provides approximately 20% more of battery life as the original battery. Does not required the extra battery door as the battery fits right in the original battery compartment, without increasing the size of the PDA like other extended battery does.
