I got this to connect an IR blaster in the living room to a pc in the office upstairs. The cable goes from the office to the attic, then connects to another cable that goes down to the crawlspace and into the living room.

It didn't seem to be getting power to the blaster, so I tried connecting it with a short cat5 in the office, then at the end of the line from the office to the attic, then connecting it in the attic to a laptop in the living room, then using the full run of cable in both directions.

It seemed to work reliably at a distance of 45ft, but at 75ft it wasn't stable. The blaster's led would light when detecting signals from a remote, but it would send signals maybe once out of 20 attempts. Eventually it stopped responding altogether. The PC could still detect that the blaster was attached, but couldn't make it function.

I thought the problem might be there isn't enough power at that distance for an unpowered peripheral, but I didn't have much more luck with powered DVD drive. Attempts to rip a DVD failed several times before getting all the way through without losing the connection, and at 12mbps, took an hour.

I don't know if it is a limit of the technology or this particular brand. I'll need to order a different one to be sure.
