Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go Velocity Series 40315 HDMI Cable (Blue, 2 meters)Customer Review: Green screen problem with Roku Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased the Cables to Go cable with my PS3 to connect it directly to a Vizio VX32L LCD TV. It worked almost flawlessly, a few times I noticed the screen would stay blue when switching screen resolutions between 1080i and 720p for some games. When I purchased my Roku I bought the Premium HDMI v1.3 Cable (2M/6ft.) for some variety. I originally used the HDMI v1.3 cable with the PS3 and moved the Cables to Go cable to the Roku. I was constantly plagued with a green screen on the TV when the Roku input was selected. Forums suggest the Roku has an issue with some cables and the green screen may be an HDCP issue that occurs after the device is idle for a while. Exasperated, I switched cables and the Roku is now connected to the Vizio with the Premium HDMI v1.3 Cable (2M/6ft.). I haven't experienced any more green screen problems. Your millage may vary, but the Premium HDMI v1.3 Cable may be the new winner in low cost HDMI cable.
Customer Review: Don't buy an expensive cable when this works great! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a fantastic cable, and here's a few reasons NOT to buy an expensive cable:
(1) The cable transmits a digital signal. Digital is "on" or "off", there's nothing in between those two signals. Digital is highly resistant to interference, so you don't need gold tips, fancy shielding, etc when all the equipment cares about is: "Hey, is this an 'on' or an 'off' signal?".
(2) Quality control.
(2a) I've read on here how some people get sloppy connections with these cables. One out of a thousand cables is bound to be funky, no matter what the company. Easy solution (or not easy for those immediate-gratification types): Return cable, exchange for another $12 cable. If the next one you get is still sloppy, I'd check your equipment.
(2b) If the more expensive cable makers are charging $100 for the same product, and that extra money goes to "quality control" (not likely, but bear with me), then I want to work there. Seriously, if the quality assurance folks get $80 for each cable they sell... Well, it adds up quick.
(3) I have one. I may not be a celebrity, but I can definitely say that this is a great product that has yet to steer me wrong.
Customer Review: Doesn't work: Maybe I have bad luck, or maybe the product is a sham? Summary: 1 Stars
I read all the outstanding reviews that this product garnered and was quickly sold on how great a value these cables were. One reviewer even offered, "I sell cables for a living, and these cables are the best!" I dreamed of outsmarting all those Monster Cable buyers by purchasing an $11 HDMI cable...
I outsmarted those who buy Monster Cables for about an hour. Then, with a room full of people at my house trying to watch a Blu-Ray movie, the cables failed. Thinking it was my TV, I began to panic. Maybe it was the Blu-Ray player? Testing revealed that the Cables to Go were the only thing not working in my brand-new system.
A quick trip to the electronics store yielded a new pair of Monster Cables that, although expensive, work perfectly to this day. These Cables to Go simply did not perform for me, and it really makes me wonder about who is writing all these positive reviews. All I can say is that the reviews fooled me, and I got what I paid for, which wasn't much. I have since returned them and will rely in the future more on brand names and reputation, and less on these "customer" product reviews.
THEY DON'T WORK!!!!
Customer Review: Great Product And Very Inexpensive Summary: 5 Stars
I just purchased a couple of these cables and gave my friend one as a gift. Being an electronics novice, he purchased a new HDTV and the salesperson convinced him that he needed to pay $118.00 for a similar HDMI cable. I explained to him that he was getting royally ripped off and made him an offer he could not refuse (free cable). He promptly returned the cable and asked for his $118.00 back. I just cannot believe how all of these major electronic retailers get away with ripping off most consumers with these so called special or better cables. At the length that all consumer electronics cables are utilized, there is absolutely no loss, I repeat "NO LOSS" or differences whether you use a $100 cable or a $5 cable. It's all foam just to make the cable look thicker and meaner and great marketing strategies in the part of both the manufacturer and the retailer. And don't go for the gold or silver plating. This is just a sales pitch. Copper is pretty much the standard conductor for all commercial cables but you don't see them hawking copper up. Now platinum, gold or silver make for a better sales pitch for those who don't know an absolute thing about electronics.
Customer Review: High-quality, low-cost alternative Summary: 5 Stars
Okay, folks...we're talking about digital signals here. A digital signal gets there, or it doesn't. This isn't like analog signals where increased resistance or poor shielding of the wire degrades your sound and picture.
This cable does what I need it to do for about 15% of the cost of most of the alternatives out there. My picture looks great, I can get 1080p out of my Playstation 3, and I saved some bucks in the process. I couldn't be happier.
From some of the reviews, you'd get the impression that this cable is exceedingly thin or poorly manufactured. Not true. It does have gold-plated ends, it fits snugly in the sockets--won't pop out from its own weight, but also will come loose instead of dragging your equipment to the floor if someone trips over it.
And I got news for you: I used to work at Best Buy, and stuff like cables have some of the highest mark-up in the store. Yup, most of what you're paying for those $100 cables--probably somewhere around $75--is going straight in to the "Profit" column in the ledger.
Buy these and a couple of BDs or a game for the same price as the big name cables.
