I have a 2 monitor computer setup, though I use the second monitor to alternate a PS3 and a newly received DirectTV box with some DVI-HDMI convertors and HDMI switch and optical audio switches (which can be moody sometimes)to get surround audio via the Sound Blaster and surround speakers on my computer. Since the new DirectTV boxes do not have optical audio out I had to pick up this converter box.
I'm pretty new to digital coax, but when I tried connecting the digital audio out from my DirectTV to the converter box, it didn't seem to work. SO, I had to order a digital coax cable and wait for that to come. Week later, it comes, I hook everything up and it STILL doesn't work. So, I go into the DirecTV, reset the box basically, unplug and reconnect all the connections and voila, everything works. Now I am not sure if I even needed the digital coax wire to begin with and I am too lazy and frustrated to unplug everything and try, but be aware YOU MIGHT NEED A DIGITAL COAX WIRE WHEN YOU BUY THIS.
As for sound quality, sounds OK to me. It could be perfect for all I know, but I gave it a 4 since I am really not sure/experienced enough. The unit has a fairly small footprint, though it comes with an adapter that has to be plugged in, which is kinda short. Overall, it gets the job done so I can't complain.
