Customer Review: Excellent RAM kit for the MacBook Pro 13 unibody
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this to upgrade the RAM in my MacBook Pro 13" unibody that had 2GB installed when I purchased it. Typically, I use the MacBook for web browsing and word processing using Word. I also typically use iTunes while doing my work, and sometimes run Parallels Desktop with Windows 7 and a statistical software package. Before the RAM upgrade, my system ran fairly slowly, especially when I had Parallels running. Once I installed the RAM kit, which is a piece of cake, I booted up and saw an immediate difference in performance. Parallels started up and ran much faster than before and web browsing in Safari was lightening fast. Obviously, it would be great to run the full 8GB of RAM, but when 4GB is under a Benjamin when compared to nearly $500 for 8GB, this is the way to go unless you are doing some serious resource-heavy software. Also, the price is fantastic when compared to a major electronics retailer who wants $250 for 4GB of virtually identical RAM from a different company.

To change it out, all you do is shut down the laptop, take a small Phillips screwdriver (1.6mm or a #0), unscrew all the screws on the bottom, remove the bottom cover, touch something metal to ground any static electricity, pop out the old RAM, and pop in the new. Took me literally 5 minutes to do it including cutting open the plastic clamshell pack that the RAM comes in. Just put the bottom cover back on and boot up. Super easy!

Definitely worth the bucks!

Customer Review: EZ Way to Upgrade & Power Apps Just Run Faster!
Summary: 5 Stars

I just made a huge 'score" on a Apple MacBook MC516LL/A 13.3-Inch Laptop/Netbook, for only $655.00 + Free Ship. I then loaded some new Power App's, and so I needed to upgrade my RAM, While surfing around, I compared the Retail price between Crucial & Amazon, and noticed that I could get Free & Faster Ship thru Amazon, so I ordered the Crucial CT2KIT25664BC1067 4GB 204-PIN PC3-8500 SODIMM DDR3 Memory KIT (2GBx2). BTW, I also use their Lexar 16 & 32GB Flash memory sticks, which work flawlessly.

Pro's - Crucial (A wholly owned subsidiary of Micron Technology, Inc., Lexar Media, Inc.), enjoys a superb reputation Worldwide for their RAM product lines, across all platforms for many years. I have personally being ordering RAM (Mac & PC) from them since 2002; because I am a DIY'er, whenever possible, & because upgrading your own RAM memory does not affect most if not all, manufacturer's hardware coverage. Crucial provides very easy, short & detailed instructions, with drawings, you just can't make a mistake, if you first read it thru completely.
* Quality product lines that more than often exceed OEM.
* Product Performance Reliability - never had any faulty or poor performing memory kits.
* Competitive Pricing - sometimes 50% or more less, than the Manufacturer or even other 3rd party's.
* Great Web site & Solid Customer Service - 5 Stars.

Con's - None to report.

Customer Review: Didn't work for my mac mini late 2009 model
Summary: 1 Stars

My mac mini came with 2 GB of RAM and I thought it would be a good idea to upgrade it to 4 GB to improve its performance because I noticed it going to the hard drive a lot. Based on the vast number of positive reviews I thought for sure this Crucial 4GB upgrade would be the ideal solution.

Well, I opened up my mac mini and installed this 4 GB memory upgrade. When I started up my mac mini, I just heard long beeps and saw a blank gray screen. I heard one beep followed by a pause, followed by a beep, a pause and so on. To attempt to fix this, I tried inserting the memory more fully into the socket. I also tried installing just one of the sticks into one slot. Then one of the sticks into the other slot. Nothing worked.

Finally, I decided to try re-installing the original memory to check if I had possibly broken my machine during the memory upgrade process. With the original memory back in place, no problem. It booted up and worked just fine. This meant the mac was fine. So I returned this 4 GB memory upgrade from Crucial and decided to try a different brand's (also starts with C) 8 GB memory upgrade kit. Guess what? The machine worked perfect after installing. So that confirmed there was something wrong with the Crucial memory upgrade kit. Sorry, but I expected more from this kit. My 2 cents.

P.S. I had purchased this direct from Amazon.

Customer Review: Read If YOU Plan TO INSTaLL IN UNIBODY MACBOOK PRO
Summary: 5 Stars

I am writing the review just to give people fair warning if its your first time installing ram on Your Macbook PRO Unibody So you dont make the same mistake I DID. FIRST OFF THE RAM works great. This was my first time taking the bottom off of my unibody 13 inch macbook pro, call it lack of experience or just being inpatient when I got to the tenth screw that I was having problems getting out I decided to move the bottom plate around a little bit thinking that the screw was already screwed out, what happened when I tried to force it out by pulling the bottom plate off while the tenth screw was still screwed in was a bend in that area, the aluminum is really easy to bend, so if this is your first time changing your ram be careful or get someone who has done it before, the slight bend in the area where I tried to get the tenth screw out is nothing that noticeable so its not a big deal, oh yeah I did get the screw out and installed the ram not problem.
BTW I just stopped by the Apple Store where I live, its gonna cost me [...] to replace the bottom plate that I bent while installing the ram plus I found out if you buy the 2gb macbook pro from them they will put 4gb in at a discount rate and credit you for the 2gb that they are uninstalling to put the 4gb in, [...]

Customer Review: Another mac mini 2009 owner
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm another satisfied mac mini 2009 owner. I bought this to upgrade from 1GB to 4GB and it's been running rock solid stable and error free since I installed it. Definitely necessary if you have more than a couple of apps running at once since I was constantly going over 1GB of memory usage and the slowdown having to use the swapfile was noticeable. Not to mention the bump from 128 to 256MB for video let me actually run some games in Vista bootcamp that failed to run with just 1GB and 128MB video. Only bad experience I had was actually opening the plastic package this ram came it. That and actually opening up the mini LOL! It was almost as much work as getting the new mac mini open without actually damaging something! For your mini's sake if you are not a pro at taking things apart and putting them back together do yourself a favor and pay the pro's to do the macmini ram upgrade for you. I've heard of too many horror stories of people breaking something in their mini's by trying this upgrade. The online video's make it look alot easier than it really is. At least it took me several hours to replace the ram in my mini without messing anything up and without leaving any scratches on it opening it up.
