Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450-Watt VX Series 80 Plus Certified Power Supply compatible with Core i7 and Core i5Customer Review: Excellent power supply & support...this is the one to buy! Summary: 5 Stars
Well, I was sitting in the den watching the Yankees & Dodgers, when, all of the sudden, I hear a loud pop come from the room next door, where the resident son...who will be returning to college for his 2nd year after the summer...had just turned on his PC to begin a video game session. The original 400W power supply...an NZXT P400...had "blown a gasket" (actually, most likely it was a capacitor).
I took a gamble that the PS had not damaged the rest of the PC's components, and ordered this "Corsair CMPSU-450VX 450-Watt" after doing a little research online.
This PS received very high ratings; an excellent, in-depth technical review can be found on online (Amazon will not allow me to post the name of the website)...just search under Corsair VX450 reviews...they really breakdown the innards of this unit, even to the point where they say that the electronic components are of Japanese origin vs. the usual Chinese source. It sounds like this PS could actually be rated as a 500W...or even a 550W...supply.
Packaging: excellent...even comes in its own little drawstring pouch-bag and is bubble-wrapped (thankfully, since the Amazon shipping folks didn't include any protection in the over-sized box they shipped it in).
Instructions: (if you need them) Clear & concise.
Performance: So far, quiet as a whisper...and it has a 5 yr limited warranty.
Support: I had a brainf**t and thought I had powered up the PC...but nothing was happening...so I called support and got a tech in California via their "800" number, who was very patient and helpful...and as I was talking with him, #1 son says, "Did you turn the PC on?"...DOHHH!...he pushed the same button I had, but he got results...and we were off to the races.
The only request I would have would be to provide a way to leave some of the extra wires & connectors off the PS...possibly by the use of intermediate extensions with connectors. This PS provides several more than we needed, and we had to carefully roll them up and tiewrap them (also provided by Corsair).
You're better off spending the extra money ($65 in our case) rather than cheaping out, especially if you are using the PC for anything that will require a lot of good, clean, low-noise, high-efficiency power!
