Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of CH Products Flight Sim Yoke USB ( 200-615 )Customer Review: Great Yoke except for one detail.... Summary: 4 Stars
This is an excellent yoke that I have owned since April 2005. I use it with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 and it works very well. The only problem I have had with it is that the clamps don't close quite far enough for my desk (which I think is average in thickness) so I have always had to place a wooden ruler between the clamps and the desk. That generally worked pretty well. During the entire time I have owned the yoke one of the bolts in the clmaps was always stiff to turn. Today it seized on me. I called CH Products technical line (except to be on hold for a long time) and they said to ship it back to them with a $33 dollar check for shipping and repairs. They said the brackets were not covered under the 3-year warranty. Keep that in mind.
Otherwise this yoke has served me very well. The yoke is a little on the stiff side as some others have noticed but I got used to that.
Customer Review: Pitch sensitivity and flight control feedback Summary: 4 Stars
I, too have found pitch to be unrealistic on takeoff rotation (not sensitive enough until achieving a stable climb attitude). Lowering th sensitivity results in poor static flight authority.
The flight control feedback from the control column is still used in 2nd generation 6-axis full motion 6-axis flight sims the airlines use for the B-707,727, and 757. It is muvh more pronounced on FS2004/XS but does occur to a lesser extent in 3rd gen Singer/Link commercial a/c flight sims.
To close, as a pilot who has flown anything from C-150's to Boeing 767-300 and AirBus 310-600RR (350,000+ MGTW) these sims are very realistic and give light a.c pilots the option to feel what it's like to operate a multi-crew commercial airplane. But, do follow the checklists and be familiar with the speeds/configuration when takeoff and landing (things happen very fast).
Customer Review: Bad to worse Summary: 1 Stars
I don't have anything other than the real thing (airplane) to compare this to, so maybe this is as good as it gets -- but I was disappointed in this yoke at the start and it gets worse as time goes by. I've owned it for three years now, using it with MS Flight Simulator, and it has degraded considerably since I purchased to the point of uselessness. I had hoped to use it for instrument practice, but no joy.
At the start it was usable, though poor and nothing like really flying. Now it seems to have dead spots that make it difficult to hold altitude or directional control, and you are constantly trying to "nudge" it forward with tiny bumps to get it to change and it holds-nudge-holds-nudge-holds-nudge-jump. The jump overshoots, so you are back to barely trying to nudge it again. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a under-$100-yoke, but disappointed.
Customer Review: Great Training Tool Summary: 5 Stars
I recently bought the flight sim yoke and rudder pedals from CH Products. I was a bit hesitant because you really never know what you are gonna get online. However, the customer reviews tipped the scale and I decided to buy. The ship time was excellent and I received the items in a timely fashion. I use the yoke and pedals with Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 and I LOVE IT! It was very frustrating flying with the keyboard buttons and not realistic flying with a fighter type joystick. The yoke and pedals simulate the flying conditions well and make the simulator very addicting. I am using this simulator to supplement my real flight training. Although not exact, it really helps reinforce previous lessons and allows me to fine tune my skills for free. I have noticed, as well as my instructor, my quick learning curve. GREAT PRODUCT!!! I Highly Recommend It!!!
Customer Review: If you're going to get a flight sim at all, get this too! Summary: 5 Stars
The whole point of getting a flight simulator is to enjoy flying a plane. A keyboard is NOT the way to enjoy anything and a joystick isn't much better.
The only downside is poor documentation. The only way I could identify which was the throttle, prop, and mixture control was to open the control panel for the device and see what reacts when I moved the switches. This doesn't affect my rating at all because I'm a complete newbie at flying and I figured it out soon enough. Once you understand that, its all clear flying from there.
If you're going to bother getting a flight simulator, invest in this yoke, it makes it so much better.
NOTE: My desk is a bit thinner than the clamps allow for. This was solved by slipping a ruler between the clamps and the bottom of my desk. It took up enough room to make a tight fit.
