Customer Review: A great tool for serious sim users
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased the CH Flight Sim Yoke to use with a flight simulator whilst in training for my instrument and commercial pilots license.

This product has transformed what was a mediocre simulation environment to a great simulation environment providing a level of realism that is difficult to get outside of the more commercialized PC Training Devices.

I have used it with both Microsoft's Flight Sim X and X-Plane 8.5. Both applications were a breeze to setup with the device and worked very well. Microsoft's Sim was running on a PC and X-Plane was running on a MacBook Pro. The device worked flawlessly on both platforms.

The Yoke comes with a built in Trim Wheel which is not really talked about anywhere. This Trim wheel is not linked to the simulator in anyway, but appears to be an electrical bias against the Yokes pitch sensor and as such doesn't have a great range of motion. I have in fact assigned one of the controls to the Sim Trimmer and use that instead.

The Yoke mounts to my desk very securely, I had seen some contrary reports, but on my desk with a roled / shaped edge, it is easy to secure the Yoke using the built in mounting system.

I fully recommend this Yoke to anyone looking for a more realistic simulation experience.

Customer Review: Pretty cool
Summary: 4 Stars

I've had this for several years now for use with my X-plane sim on Mac and overall I've been happy with it. The hat switch on the right side of the yoke no longer works when you push it up, but down and right and left still work, so this is a minor irritation but I don't regret buying it. In X-plane you can assign the buttons and levers to do whatever you want, so if you want one throttle, mixture, and prop pitch control, you can do that. But if you want two throttles for twin engines and no pitch, you can change that, too.

The common complaint about this yoke is that the clamps that hold it down do not work well on thin desks--especially when they're tapered at the edge. The problem is the clamps on the bottom of the yoke do not reach far enough back under the desk and they do not tighten down enough. This is fixed relatively easily with a book or the like, but it is frustrating to pull back on the yoke for a landing flare and have the whole thing either tilt back or flat out pop off the desk into your lap.

Bottom line--if you're looking for more realism in flying yoke-controlled aircraft (as opposed to joystick), this is an expensive piece of plastic, but it gets the job done and it's the cheapest yoke control I've seen.

Customer Review: Good for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

Good yoke for the price

I got this yoke a month ago and I love it.

It is the only simulator yoke that will simulate the realism of a an aircraft's yoke for this price. The functions of the three levers for mixture, throttle and prop. pitch are great to have and the two switches on the main body for the flaps and landing gear (if you configure them like that) are also really nice.

The negative points on this yoke are:
First, the really really really sensitive and hard to move trim wheel,
Second, the non smooth and full of friction yoke,
Third, the inability of the yoke to return to a single neutral position. It just stops wherever it wants.

Having said that, in order to get anything else with the features of this yoke would have cost you much much more.

I am currently flying a piper Cherokee and its counterpart piper warrior in the FS2004 simulator (in which the yoke intergrades seamlessly) and I find the whole thing really helpful.

Its not perfect but its really good for the money.
I have to say though that only a little extra effort from this company would have made this yoke much better.

Customer Review: I always wanted to learn to fly for real.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been flying flight simulators since F15 Strike Eagle (If anyone can remember that one) right up to MS flight simulator 2004 using only the keyboard and mouse.

I always wanted to learn to fly for real, so in July of 2004 I started taking flight lesions. I was able to realize my dream in January of 2005 when I passed my check ride and received my private pilot single engine land class rating. Almost all of my flight simulator skills transferred to the real Cessna 172 and saved me money! If anyone tells you any different...well shame on them. If I had it to do over again, well I probably wouldn't change a thing. I was able to find a great price for this yoke and all of my personal flight goals were achieved. If you want to shorten the learning curve and remove some of the inherent flight simulator barriers. Then this is the yoke for you. I (and my four year old little girl) have been using this product for a couple of months now without any problems with mounting, setup or operation. Of course she is having a little trouble with her landings but that's a feel thing right.

Customer Review: The only Yoke for the masses
Summary: 4 Stars

This yoke is the only choice in this price range except for the similar and slightly cheaper LE version that comes with one throttle lever instead of three. I agree that it is a little bit overpriced and plasticky but you'd end up paying ten times more for a more realistic product.

I just bought it anticipating the release of MS Flight Simulator 2004 and I can't wait to fly some civilian aircraft with it in a couple of weeks. In the meantime, I've successfully flown tons of He-111 bomber missions in IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles and the yoke has worked great there and added tons of realism. It's a bit mushy though and it's too bad it does not have a dead-on center. I had to correct my straight flight path almost constantly.

I was glad I didn't have to touch the software CD that came with. I just plugged it in, Windows XP recognized it immediately, and I assigned functions to the buttons and axis inside the game with no problems.

CH Products last forever (I've used their Flightstick Pro for 10 years now), they have good customer support, and they're all made in the USA.
