Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Cables To Go 7 Port USB 2.0 HubCustomer Review: Worked Great for a year and half, then died. Summary: 3 StarsThe Cables To Go 7 port powered usb hub worked great for a year and half on my Macbook Pro, but the power supply recently died (seems pretty common with these devices). I'm not a fan of the bright blue light (annoying) and the fact that the device ran "really hot" (capable of melting stuff underneath it), so today I replaced it with the Kensington Pockethub 7-port purchased at the Apple store and it plugged right in and is working perfectly. Hopefully this one will last!
Customer Review: Why did I wait so long to buy one of these Summary: 5 StarsI am constantly transporting files from my home office to my work office using a jumpstick. For years I've been fumbling around at the back of my home desktop, plugging the various peripherals into the slots in the back. Not easy to do when the CPU sits on the floor in the corner. When I finally decided enough was enough, I did some looking around, found the good reviews on this model, and figured I'd give it a try. I'm kicking myself for not doing it sooner. Now I simply reach beside me, pop in my jumpstick, and away we go. It also is great to be able to leave all those other items plugged in all the time (label machine, camera cable, Ipod cable, etc., you know how they seem to multiply faster than available USB ports).
The hub seems sturdy and I haven't had any problems with it in the 6 months I've had it. I'm sure like most $20 products it has a limited life expectancy, but at that price, I'm not going to worry about it.
Customer Review: Keeps on trucking. Summary: 5 StarsI've had this for over a year and a half, with no problems. Works just fine, and is now selling for a very low price.
Customer Review: Great Hub Summary: 5 StarsUSB hubs are USB hubs but this one is a fair bit more stylish than others. I like the fact that they supply screws so I can attach it to my desk or a wall and having the ports on opposite sides is nice so I don't have to crowd 7 plugs on to one side. Works great, no issues.. if I needed another hub I'd order this one again in a second.
Customer Review: Used it for 2 months, and then it failed, probably from static electricity discharge Summary: 1 StarsUsed it for 2 months and then it died. My guess is the failure was due to a static electricity discharge. It's now November, and the air in my house is drier, and my body gets a static charge. So when I plugged in a USB device, a small spark (several hundred if not thousand volts) fried the electronics. One would hope that the engineers built circuitry that would shunt a static electricity discharge harmlessly to ground. The better devices (of all kinds) have this feature. Apparently this USB hub doesn't. So I can't recommend it for use except in humid climates.
It is in a nice metal case, though I would have preferred the four ports in the front and three in the back.
The Message from Win XP - One the USB devices has malfunctioned and computer cannot recognize it. It now goes into the recycle bin. Postage would cost about half of what I paid for it so it is now e-Trash.
After this failure, I put a static discharge mat under my keyboard, and now I'm going to buy another brand and hope for better luck.
