I just purchased the Brother printer MFC-9840CDW. While searching around for toners, I came up on this review (tip) from another website:
"Toner is OEM and an excellent price. To those who don't understand printer technology:
1. Yes, color toners are used even printing black UNLESS you set on "Mono." You can change properties to color print at will.
2. ALL printers rate pages at 5% coverage or so. If you frequenly print full page color, you will suck toner very fast. Sorry== check the specs before buying any printer. "

I always order name brand toner for my printer as I am unsure of the generic type of toner... well, now I'm going to find out. I read the product description and ordered what I thought was a Brother's Toner cartridge. Wrong! When I received it, it was a No-Name type of toner. Careful... it may have described that it was "No-Name" but I didn't see it. I don't like when I'm fooled into buying something I wouldn't have bought if I knew better.

What can I say? They are toner cartridges? I do find that if I shake the cartridge a little when the printer says it is low, that I get another month out of it.
I appreciate the other reviews telling about turning the gear wheel on the side! That is very helpful! Often a cartridge still has life in it when the printer is finished with its count. Especially with the color lasers used as the primary printer with mostly black pages printing.

I shy away from remanufactured and clone toners as they always seem to create more problems than the dollars they save. I get good service out of the Brother toners and am always happy with the print quality. However, I do pull the trick about covering the sensor "eyes" on the toner and resetting the toner life on the unit to squeeze maximum life out of them when the machine first reports empty.Customer Review: Disappointed in Amazon.com

I purchased two Brother Toner Cartridges for my printer. Their web site claims products by brother. I assumed they would be genuine brother products. I received one genuine brother cartridge and the other was a compatible brother cartridge. They need to clearly specify genuine or compatible. There are many web sites that sell compatible brother cartridges for a much cheaper price than Amazon.
