Customer Review: overall didn't meet my needs

If i had written a review within the first couple weeks, i might have given 4 or 5 stars, but around the 2 week point, i started getting frequent paper jams, even though only putting a few pages in the feeder, and by 3 weeks, it said it needed a new ribbon.
I liked the small footrprint. I needed help setting it up, i didn't understand everything about setting it up. I called tech support and was happy with that experience, my problems weren't all resolved, but at lease he was nice and trying hard to help, and little to no hold time on the phone.
I was sharing the phone line with a voice mail and that was too hard, there was a conflict between the number of rings the voice mail used to pick up a call and number of rings the fax machine used. I followed the directions and still there was a problem, and the tech support guy also could not get it to work (sorry, it's been over a month and i can't remember what the exact problem was but he had dealt with it before, and the solution would've been to get different ring tones for the fax and the regular calls, but instead, we used a different work around which i don't remember; it was covered in the user manual, which anticipated the problem, apparently it's common, where the voice mail will pick up too soon and even though you try to compensate for this with the fax settings, in some cases, including mine, there is still a conflict so that you dont' get your faxes.
So then, i cancelled my voice mail and instead used the answering machine that came with the phone, and that worked better. But i was not receiving all of my faxes that people said they tried to fax me. So then, i got a dedicated fax line, separate from the phone line because receiving my faxes is very important to me. But soon after that, i started getting frequent paper jams which tech support was unable to help me with, and then, around three weeks after i got the fax machine, it said it needed a new ribbon.
It was too many problems so i returned it, thinking i would get another brother model that can handle more paper, but i ended up getting an HP All In One 4315 because it had a pretty small footprint and a good price, $59.99 new on Amazon, and i've had very good reliability experiences with HP All and One fax function in the past. We have an HP all in one that prints, copies and scans but doesn't fax. I didnt' need an All In One, but the price for the HP was not much more than the Brother 575 so i got the HP just for the fax. I had a much better experience with the HP, having had it for a month with easy set up, no paper jams and no problems receiving any faxes. It feels more solid.
I had no problems sending faxes with the Brother, it worked every time. but with receiving, i had problems with the shared line handling, and then, with paper jams, and then running out of ink after very light use.
What i liked was, very compact,small foot print, and good price, and good phone support.
It seemed to work well for the first two weeks.
