Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Brother Black Toner Cartridge (TN-350)

Customer Review: Easy to install and affordable!
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this toner cartridge to replace the original toner that came with my Brother 2070-N laser printer. I've been extremely happy with the Brother laser printer's performance and durability, but I was on the fence with regards to choosing the appropriate toner.

I had considered alternate toner manufacturers, including the generic brands offered by various "office supply" stores in town - but in the end, I opted to go with the Brother manufactured toner. In my own research, I found that the generic brands tend to be remanufactured units (instead of new) that offer mediocre performance at best, when compared to the manufacturer's own brand.

The box comes with the toner unit encased in protective plastic. It also comes with a pre-paid label that you can use to mail the old toner back to Brother. The fact that the manufacturer is environmentally conscious was a very pleasant surprise. Two pre-paid labels are included - one for the States and one that appeared to be International.

Anyway, the new toner was literally a snap to install, taking no more than 30 seconds. I'm printing great copies once again and am very satisfied with my purchase. I will definitely purchase another Brother replacement toner cartridge again. I will also buy again from Amazon as they tend to have the best price on this particular unit.

Highly recommended.

Customer Review: I Was an Ink Jet Junkie
Summary: 5 Stars

For years I was a slave to Ink Jet Printers. When one would die I would dutifully go out and buy another. I would feed them an endless stream of fresh cartridges. They were never satisfied. My last Ink Jet got so surly it refused to acknowledge a fresh cartridge, insisting that it was empty. It was a battle of wills that lasted for days. The printer won.

What to do now? Buy it another cartridge it may or may not reject? Buy another new printer and start the hellish cycle all over again? Or...or try something new?

Ah, yes! Laser Printers!!!
A friend had recommended Laser in the past, but I had balked at the price of the cartridge.
I decided to give it a shot. Heck, it couldn't be any worse the Ink Jets.

Now, after more than a year with my little work horse Brother HL-2040 Monochrome Laser Printer, I am a true believer and convert. These cartridges last forever (well, almost...first one lasted nearly a year! Compared to those little Ink Jet stinkers that is forever!)

So the moral is: Save time, money, and your sanity with Laser Printer Cartridges.

P.S. Even with shipping, Amazon has the best price, too.

Customer Review: Alas, no extended life for my cartridge
Summary: 4 Stars

I tried the trick of covering the portholes of my toner cartridge. No change--the printer would not print. I tried darker tape, taping both portholes, coloring the dark tape darker with a black Sharpie, every permutation and combination that I could think of. No printing. And I had an emergency.

It is enraging that the printer would simply stop; that's profoundly unfair, and I will buy another printer, NOT a Brother. It's too bad. I have purchased many of them for business use in different settings and in different countries and will now advise everyone to switch. Great printer; idiot business practices re the toner cartridges.

I appreciate the porthole tip and am glad it works for others. Maybe I shook my cartridge more than most folks and really don't have any toner left. Nevertheless, HP laserjets and every other printer I have ever used in my long business career work the same way. They print lighter and lighter until you decide for yourself that you must install a new toner cartridge. I refuse to have my printer crippled because the company decided for me that I must purchase a new cartridge. It's evil.

Customer Review: TN 350 Toner Cartridge...
Summary: 5 Stars

I have owned my Brother MFC Multi-Function printer now for about 3 years and really like it - however I don't think I am getting anywhere close to the 2500 sheets of printed paper out of the toner cartridge as both the boxes they come and the owner's manual says you should.

This is my second cartridge I have purchased already. That would mean I would have printed over 5000 pieces from the printer and don't think it's anywhere near that amount.

Anyway, the main reason I am writing this review is twofold.

#1: Saved $27 by purchasing the toner online from Amazon compared to my local Office Max store. That's even INCLUDING the shipping cost. That is about a 33% savings. That is SIGNIFICANT!

#2. Brother included a return shipping label so you can drop the old toner cartridge back in the new toner cartridge box and drop it in the mail. (Nothing more than simply taping the label on the box - thought that was cool and a great way to recycle.)

Overall, an easy install and very good directions.

Customer Review: Very Low Capacity toner cartridge.
Summary: 3 Stars

I am a fan of brother DCPs and MFCs because they have excellent scanning and come with PaperPort scanning document managment software. I have a brother multifunction at every one of the 7 workstations in my law firm.
I purchased several DCP 7020s because the price was under $200 each. But they use these TN 350s which are a total rip off. Here are the specs. These TN-350s cost $43 and claim a capacity of 2500 pages.
Other Brother printers use higher capacity toners, such as the TN-580, which is rated at 7,000 pages and cost $63. Do the math. The cheap printer turns out much more expensive very quickly because you go through toners so fast. With a claimed capacity of 2500, in reality you're lucky to get 2000 pages. Imagine buying a new toner for every 4 reams of paper you go through! SO, I as soon as I get my first "change drum" message, I am going to trash these little Brothers and get one of their higher speed larger models. The extra couple hundred on the equipment will be paid off in toner savings in no time.
