Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Bracketron UFM-100BL Nav-Mat GPS Friction Dash PadCustomer Review: Great design, excellent performance Summary: 5 Stars
I needed an alternative to the standard windshield-only mount setup and I couldn't use the permanent adhesive disc that came with my unit because I couldn't find a flat surface available anywhere on my car's interior that would keep the GPS unit visible while driving. I really like this nav-mat and it works great with my TomTom ONE (3rd ed.). It stays solidly in place on winding mountain roads.
I also like how easy it is to move the unit between my car and truck. Speaking of which, I took my truck off-roading in the desert and belatedly realized I still had the GPS in the cab as I was heading out. I took the nav-mat w/ mounted unit off the dash and placed the whole thing on the center board near the floor where it never moved once despite bouncing my 3/4-ton truck several times over whoop-de-doo's and doing donut's in the wash during a midnight run. With that kind of abuse, the nav-mat kept my GPS unit protected by not leaving it bouncing around loose in the glove-box (or worse) floor...again, the ease of moving the nav-mat while keeping the GPS unit securely attached is a huge plus.
Customer Review: very nice GPS mat Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this for my wife to go with her new Magellan GPS. We've had issues in the past with the standard suction cup mount falling off our window in the middle of a trip.
With this handy mat, we no longer have to worry about that. The setup was very easy. Simply place the mat of your dashboard, then using the standard suction cup that comes with your GPS you can attach the GPS to the center of the mat. I've done this one time, and have not had to worry about the suction coming loose and the GPS falling on the floor.
You can also easily adjust the angle of your GPS which is a convenient feature. The mat is very sturdy and we have not had any issues with it slipping around on the dashboard. It is also very easy to move from one vehicle to another. I recently had to do this when borrowing the GPS for a trip in my car using my Garmin Nuvi GPS.
Overall, this is a very nice product that can be used with just about any brand of GPS. The price is affordable for almost any budget, making this a good buy if your looking for an affordable GPS mounting solution.
Customer Review: Not so Great Choice - Better option out there Summary: 2 Stars
I bought two of these for my Garmins and initially put out the following review:
I bought this for use with my Garmin nüvi 660 4.3-Inch Widescreen Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator. Like other reviewers, I did not like advertising that I had a GPS in my vehicle by having the suction cup holder stuck to my windshield. The Bracketron Nav-Mat works great! It allows me to rotate the GPS from my Honda Accord to my Honda Mini Van with no difficulty. Hard turns and quick accelerations and stops have no affect on the stability of this device. I don't know why anyone would want to pay more when this device works so well.
Problem is that after awhile it stopped gripping very well and I was constantly catching the mount before it fell.
For my new Garmin 1490t I bought the HDFMB-2: i.Trek V2 Open Front Heavy Duty Friction Mount Base for Garmin, TomTom, Magellan GPS Devices from Amazon and it is SO MUCH BETTER. It does not budge and as such I would highly recomend it over this model.
Customer Review: Great Product!! Works Great!! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Nav-Mat bracket as an addition to my Navigon 2100. The enclosed bracket with the GPS works well, but like most is inconvenient to continuously mount and remove. I bought the NavMat as a dash mounted alternative to the window mount. All you need to do is stick your window mount to the suction cup in the center of the Nav-Mat and now your GPS has a secure mount to the dash.
The NavMat weighs about 3 pounds and is full of beans that weigh the unit to the dashboard. The bottom of the unit is made of a tacky material that keeps the bean bag firmly attached to the dash without having to actually stick it on. I have actually tried to shake the Nav-Mat
loose during sharp turns and bumpy roads but to no avail! I feel very secure having my GPS attached to a NavMat.
Removal of the GPS from the Nav-Mat is as easy as disconnecting your GPS from the bean bag and then placing your Nav-Mat under your car seat. I cant say enough about the Nav-Mat and highly recommend it to anyone.
Customer Review: Problem Solved Summary: 5 Stars
This little product solved 2 problems for me: 1) suction cup ghosts on the windshield and 2) long stretches to adjust my Garmin 265wt GPS while attached to the windshield suction cup. The first problem of course leaves a tell-tale mark that is easy for thieves to spot. That problem is solved because I simply move the dash pad to the floor of the vehicle.
The second problem is just a plain old pain in the ____, well you get the idea. Actually, it's a pain in the neck and shoulders to reach/stretch that far. Not to mention the possible safety issues of being too far out of the driver comfort zone.
I'm using this dash pad in a Pontiac Montana Van which has an uneven dashboard surface, i.e, no flat spots where the dash pad can have great contact. Regardless, the dash pad has functioned flawlessly for me. It has not moved a single inch, even on sharp curves. I've been very impressed.
And for a low price of ~$14, this makes this very functional problem solver a real bargain.
