Customer Review: Good battery, but can get stuck in your camera!

First, right to the bad... these generic batteries aren't made to perfect specs, so they can be a little larger than the Canon authorized versions and can stick inside your camera. I realized this at important event when I needed to swap out the battery installed in my camera's battery compartment. The generic version wouldn't "pop" out when released. I had to borrow a pair of nail clippers from someone and grab the corner and pull it out. I looked pretty unprofessional having to dig out the cheapo battery from my camera in front of clients.
That said, the batteries do work wonderfully. They are just as good, if not better than the Canon versions. So I figured out a way to get them out of the camera. First, if your generic battery comes with the black label like shown here, peel it off. This will make it slightly thinner. Next, get some strapping tape (the kind that has fibers running through it) and run a bit of tape down each side of the battery (the same sides as the black label) , leaving a little bit of an overlap at the end of the battery where you can press the two sides of the tape together and create a little "pull tab". The extra flap of tape that creates the "pull tab" can be folded and tucked into the recess and the battery door closes without a problem. When it's time to remove the battery, you have the tape tab to pull on while you release the battery. Sure, it looks a little hokey, but it works. Just make sure to put the tape around the battery, avoiding the contacts. I used P-Touch labeling tape, because the tape needs to be narrow enough to avoid the contacts. If applied correctly, the tape doesn't interfere with the battery, how it's inserted into the camera or when inserting into the charger. I've uploaded a few photos to demonstrate how I solved this problem.
Even better is if you purchase and use the battery grip for your camera. The batteries don't have the same fit issues in the grip and they are easy to pop in and out of the grip's battery tray.
Overall, I would recommend these batteries, but just be warned that they might fit a little tight in the camera body itself, so use a little tape to make a tab to get them out and you'll be fine. If you use the grip, you should have no problems at all. I've had two generic batteries in my grip now for about two months, having taken about 300 photos and so far, the camera still reads as "fully charged", so you can get a lot of mileage out of these generics. You can't beat the price.
