Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of PowerCost Monitor TMCustomer Review: BlueLines PowerCost Monitor Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this and only had it going for about 1 week and then the massive ice storm of 2009 struck. We were without power for 10 days, so I haven't had much time using this, but it is a great device. With this you can watch the electric meter disk turn faster or slower with each thing turned on. Letting you monitor which items are the most power hungry.
It also has an outside thermometer letting you know the temp first thing in the morning.
Like keeping an eye on the speedometer of your car only better, this helps you keep an eye on the speedometer of your electric bill!
Customer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
I read an article about a product called a Wattson, which isn't available yet, however this product pretty much does what the Wattson does except for detailed tracking and computer integration.
The package is very simple to set up, all you need is a screwdriver. Batteries are included and the instructions are clear and easy to understand.
This product makes it easy to track real-time KWh usage in your home. For smaller appliances, consider using an in-line watt/amp display meter instead. They tend to show more precise and faster updates to readins.
Customer Review: Fantastic Device Summary: 5 Stars
This took about 30 minutes to install and configure. Simply attach the sensor to your outside electric meter (works with both the analog dial style and the newer digital meters), synch the sensor with the display, and enter your electric rate. The display worked on the opposite side of the house from the sensor. It tracks consumption w/ about a 10 second delay. It display both the current cost of power consumption and the cumulative cost since the last manual reset. As a bonus, it also displays the outside temperature.
Customer Review: Tough to set up for some users Summary: 3 Stars
I think this would be a good product for some people. Here in Maine we have a strange Schlumberger electric meter which makes it very hard to get the sender to work. We got good advice from the manufacturer, but it just wouldn't work with our meter. You probably would have better luck. Our meter has a plate blocking the area where the spinning disk could easily be read.
On the plus side, our money was returned cheerfully.
Customer Review: Great idea. Works OK as long you have no other 433 MHz devices. Summary: 3 Stars
It works reasonably well, but it's clearly version 1.0. I'm sure they will get better. The big limitation is the 433 MHz wireless link between the meter reader and the remote display unit. If you have any other 433 MHz devices in your house, the effective range will be only a few feet.
Most remote temperature and weather monitors operate at 433 MHz.
