Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Blackberry Trackball / Joystick / Navigate / Pearl / Ring Repair Replacement Fix Fixing for Rim Blackberry PearlCustomer Review: Don't waste your money or time Summary: 1 Stars
After seeing the huge number of positive reviews on this product, I decided to order it to replace my quickly deteriorating Blackberry Curve 8330 trackball and broken ring. I researched how to replace it, watched several videos on youtube, and was eager to do the swap when they arrived.
I ordered 2 so I'd have another for the future, but one of the two rings arrived broken in the mail, so it was useless.
The replacement takes about 2 minutes total, but I was horribly disappointed in the quality of this trackball. The new trackball felt very gritty, as though there was sand in it, and moving it hardly ever registered with the blackberry. I thought it was just a fluke, so I swapped back to my original trackball, and found that even though it was old and kind of worn out, it gives much better response than the new one, and didn't feel gritty.
After that, I tried the second new trackball, but that one also felt very gritty, and it even makes a gritty sound when you scroll with it. You have to scroll like 10 times really fast to get the menus to even move up or down 1 selection, which is far worse than the original trackball.
For now I'm going back to my old original trackball until I can find a decent source for replacements.
Fortunately the seller quickly offered a refund for the order, but it was still a waste of my time to order, wait, replace the trackball, and contact the seller. Stay away.
Customer Review: Blackberry Trackball/joystick replacement fit with chrome ring for blackberry pearl 8120/8130 Summary: 5 Stars
I just received my OEM Trackball/navigate/pearl/ring repair replacement fix for my (Blackberry Pearl 8130) today Feb 7,2011. And my Blackberry works like it's brand new I've heard that the Trackballs get dirty and stop working after some many uses, I've only have my Phone for about 6 months and I had to clean the Trackball often and change the Trackball settings in order for the ball to work but then it got to a point to where the ball just didn't want to work at all no matter how much I clean it or change the settings so I come to Amazon because I've heard that they have everything!! And I run across the OEM Trackball replacement fix for the blackberry pearl 8120/8130 it was only $ 1.47 as first I wasn't sure if i should order it or not or would it even work correctly as but once I got it and place it into my phone and snap the little chrome ring on and I was breezing thru my phone's menu and programs with no problem this OEM TRACKBALL WORKS 100 TIMES BETTER THEN THE FACTORY TRACKBALL THAT COME WITH THE PHONE!! If any of you have a blackberry pearl I was really look into getting this quick and easy fix it's really cheap and it works perfect!!!
Customer Review: cheap and it shows Summary: 2 Stars
bought as a replacement for the trackball on my pearl 8100. installation was simple, remove the old, drop in the new and pop the ring in. unfortunately, it feels nowhere near as responsive as the original. you have to be extremely gentle when scrolling, any sort of pressure will make put the trackball in a dead zone between the "scrolling" function and "clicking enter/action" function, so the cursor doesn't move at all. maybe it's just my phone (since the enter/action function was the reason i had to replace the trackball in the first place), but there is no more physical "click" when pressing the trackball down. also, i have to make a concerted effort to press more firmly than normal. it doesn't feel as "solid" as the oem, definitely doesn't scroll as smoothly. it does work, but you can tell it's a cheap, replacement. contemplating putting the original in and continuing to just use the enter key. you get what you pay for, glad i didn't pay more than $5 total for this. i'd suggest trying something else. maybe $5 more could get you a trackball closer to the oem feel.
Customer Review: Increases longevity of your phone, but with inconvenience. Summary: 3 Stars
So I bought this because my old trackball decided to fall out and all the scrollers fell out as well. It's pretty cheap. We have to understand that this isn't an OEM replacement but a third party so it's not gonna be perfect. The ball feels a little gritty but it's just something you have to get use to. It will probably become smoother later on after repeated use. When I installed this into my 8120, it would barely scroll up or down. I had to spend about 5 mins getting to the settings and change the vertical sensitivity of the trackball for it to be similar to the old one. Even though it's closer to normal, it's still not that great as when I scroll up or down it tends to scroll the opposite direction at times. A little inconvenient but nonetheless it works. So if you are having problems with scrolling try setting the sensitivity first before you say it's not good.
Customer Review: 2nd one working good, 1st one did not Summary: 4 Stars
My Pearl 8100's trackball stopped scrolling to the left. I cleaned it but still the same. When I flipped it, it would not scroll to the right. That's how I knew that my trackball went bad and the phone parts were OK.
The first one that I ordered a few months back did not work well. It did not contact the sensors properly and I was having a hard time scrolling smoothly. I also read in the past reviews that few people got a bad one. Since it's only a few bucks, I ordered a second one which seems to be working great so far and scrolling like a new phone's one.
So, it just depends which one you get. I would not have bought a third one though had the second turned bad too. Overall, I think it is worth it to avoid buying a new phone.
I hope my review helps someone with the same problem.
