Below this paragraph is my original report on this Belkin unit, I must amend something that has come to my attention. My son bought one exactly like the one I returned. He used it in a Chevy truck with an upgraded audio system and IT WORKED PERFECTLY, AND I WAS DUMBFOUNDED! There was NO static at all, almost like a direct connection. So, it is very clear you must order any of these FM transmitters and HOPE they work with your vehicle. It's the vehicle and it's antenna that makes or breaks these products. This is the reason people are seeing such mixed reviews. If I had not experienced this myself, I would have not believed it, and you can take that to the bank!!
HERE IS MY ORIGINAL REVIEW: IT'S A GREAT DESIGN IF IT WILL WORK IN YOUR VEHICLE, THAT IS THE IMPORTANT QUESTION. THE DESIGN IS THE BEST!
The Belkin FM Tunebase design is just wonderful, it's small, compact, and the adjustable neck is perfect. Mine just did not work worth beans! There are about 10 things Belkin has you try, if you have poor reception, and by poor reception, I mean static, static, and more static! I tried every setting, every frequency, including one frequency that had no background noise or adjacent station bleed over, an actual CLEAR frequency, and the TuneBase would not even work with that frequency. I tried placing the unit right in front of the radio face plate, as Belkin said the transmitter was in the holder of the iPod, and I'm not sure that is the case!
The customer service rep I worked with took me to an Internet site that shows open frequencies for every area, and my completely clear frequency was indeed listed. Belkin's service person were very nice, but my guy knew there were problems with thier TuneBases, and more or less said the transfer method really is just a compromise, and I can assure you, it is!
Mine was worse than bad, it was a complete failure, unusable, and I returned it.
I have tried a DLO and it is a failure as well, not as bad as the Belkin, but it's bad! I would say if you like music, and not static, "bad static", go have an input installed into your radio, it's about $100-$150, and enjoy your iPod, like it was intended to be enjoyed. Oh, if you have a cassette player, like my older 2002 Ford Expedition, just use the SONY cassette adaptor, TOTALLY SATISFACTORY, no complaints at all, great product. Stay away from the Belkin FM TuneBase, or buy with caution, mine just would not work at all, and I can assure you, I tried everything!
