I bought this case for several reasons. I wanted a pretty color; I wanted a side open flap and I wanted a latch to keep it closed while in my purse. This case has all those features, but the quality is lacking compared to other comparably priced products.
When I opened the package, I was delighted. The color is very pretty and vibrant, with a classy coordinating tan suede interior. No way my husband would confuse his ipod with mine! But, my excitement faded fast when I found that the color was the best thing about it. First, the product description doesn't mention that the latch is velcro and not snap. Velcro wears quickly with normal use and I'd be looking to replace this in a few months.
Second, there is no leather at the top and bottom of the ipod. Instead there is a small piece of pink elastic material at the top and bottom that hold the leather back to the leather on the front of the iPod. Why isn't this fully surrounded by leather since it slides out to the side? This isn't as secure as the design on the DLO HipCase we bought for my husband. The DLO surrounds the iPod on 3 sides with leather, not elastic. And my 2nd Gen touch didn't fit well in this case. As another reviewer notes, it's not snug and the ipod shifts easily within the leather.
Third, the opening for the screen isn't designed well either. Unlike the DLO which has a groove cut out for it, the control button here is covered with leather, with a metal bit above it so a user can press the button through the leather. Except, when the case is closed and in my purse or backpack, that metal bit is pressing into the button unnecessarily. Yet, the top front of the ipod has a small strip of leather (attached to the even smaller piece of elastic) leaving the black portion above the screen visible and providing a less secure hold.
Finally, I didn't like the side open flap (though this was not a product flaw, just preference). The flap doesn't stay open as well as a vertical flap, forcing my hand into an awkward position to hold it open while using. Folding it over puts a strain on the leather and it could crack. Overall, I can't recommend this case except to those that don't use the iPod much. The DLO HipCase is a great case for about the same cost. I don't like the DLO's belt clip so I ordered the Sena Flip Case. It's pricey, but I hope the quality matches the quality of the product I'm trying to protect - the iPod.
