Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin WaveRest Gel Mouse Pad (Black)Customer Review: Great pad to let your mouse hang out on Summary: 5 Stars
I'm glad some reviewers have commented that the wrist pad has lead, and shouldn't be used by those with lead allergies or little children who might eat it.
I'm really happy with this wrist/mouse pad. I spend a lot of time on the computers at home and at work. I had a frozen right shoulder from not having good wrist support and from working with the mouse in the wrong position. I was in screaming pain about about a year. This mousepad helped by providing good wrist support which lowered the stress on my shoulder. I wore out the first Belkin gel pad, and am now on my second.
The gel pad is covered with a nice low friction material, is wide enough so that your wrist isn't stuck in one position, and is neither too hard nor too soft for comfort. The part of the mouse pad where the mouse runs wild and free is also covered with the same low friction silky material so the mouse can be moved easily. It is also cut wider at the top so that the mouse has more room to move, while your arm doesn't have to move as much.
September 2005 -- About a year and a half after I bought my second one, the second got as dirty as six week old bed sheets, the mouse wouldn't slide over it easily, and the wrist pad got almost sticky. I just bought a thrid one.
When this mouse pad wears out, I'll probably buy another of the same. Until they come up with direct mental control over the cursor, this works just fine.
OK. August 2007 -- I spilled Diet Pepsi on it and bought another one. I like this mouse pad!
Customer Review: NOT THE SAME MOUSEPAD YOU USED TO HAVE! Summary: 1 Stars
I've been using this mousepad at pretty much every job I've had for many years, and it's worked just fine - from regular to wireless mice, optical and not, and it was VERY comfortable. I finally ordered one for home use, and IT'S TOTALLY DIFFERENT!
At first I didn't see the difference or get what the other reviewers were talking about until I borrowed my dad's old Belkin mousepad - they were right! The OLD Belkin wrist support was much softer, and had a real gel feel to it. The new one is MUCH more firm, and almost like a really firm sponge. It's not NEARLY as comfortable as the old gel wrist support and IT DOESN'T WORK FOR OPTICAL MICE ANYMORE! The surface of it is too sleak/glossy. What a piece of crap. I am using my dad's old dusty Belkin mousepad right now as I am doing this review, and I can move my mouse smoothly and comfortably on it - so it USED to work for optical mice. If it wasn't so dirty I'd probably steal it from him and keep it for myself.
So now I have to keep my old crappy mousepad on top of this new crappier Belkin mousepad just for the half-assed, tough "gel" wrist support. Looks really ghetto and not something you'd expect from a $15 dollar mousepad. Pretty disappointed since I used to love these mousepads. Belkin totally went McDonald's on us, and is probably going to lose many more customers. Shame.
Customer Review: I love this mouse pad Summary: 5 Stars
I first bought the Belkin sometime around the turn of the century to address a wrist pain I was starting to get after using a new desk chair. The problem went away instantly and I loved the mouse pad and how my wrist sat on it.
Recently, I noticed how worn out my Belkin had become. Figuring that seven years or so was a good enough run I ordered a replacement - same model, same color, almost exactly the same except their logo had changed. This is a very good mouse pad made out of good materials with good ergonomic support.
If there was to be a gripe about the Belkin it would be that it isn't huge. The size is fine for my purposes, but if you were to make it a little better, extending the mouse surface would be how you'd do it.
On a side note, when ordering my replacement I decided to also get a Belkin keyboard wrist rest (Belkin F8E263-BLK Wave Rest Gel-Filled Cushion Wrist Rest Pad (Black)) for my new keyboard and am also quite pleased with it. Belkin definitely knows their ergonomics.
Customer Review: worst mousepad ever Summary: 1 Stars
ok first of all the mouse pad is smaller than you think, which is bad if you are going to game with it.
Second, the synthetic material they used feels really nice to the skin and is the main reason why I picked this mouse pad.
However, it is easily the worst material possible as a mouse surface. I CANNOT use ANY wireless optical mice on this surface. I tried 3 and the mice stop responding when used on this surface.
Also from what I can tell, it causes a LOT of friction which means it takes more effort to move the mouse across the pad. I can actually HEAR the mouse when I move it around.
The only positive feedback I can give is the shape, size, and feel of the wrist support. which is exactly what I was looking for.
In the end, I cut off the pad area from the wrist support and stitched my old mouse pad onto the wrist support.
seriously tho... a mouse pad that doesn't work? wtf?
Customer Review: Not as good as I had hoped Summary: 2 Stars
I have used mouse pads with built in gel pads before and found them to be very comfortable.
So I was surprised that after some light use I was already feeling discomfort in my wrist, which was a surprise as the whole point of the gel pad is to support the wrist and reduce wrist strain. I decided that well maybe it was just me and went about my business not wanting to admit to my wife that I bought a boat anchor. To my surprise several days later she also complained of the same issue, so we turned it sideways and now use it without the gel support. I went back and checked my son's mouse pad with gel support and found his to be slightly softer and allow more compliance, and made this one seem very stiff in comparison.
In summary the mouse pad itself has a good surface and works very well with a Logitech High Performance Optical mouse, just didn't like the gel wrist support, so probably not worth the cost.
