Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin WaveRest Gel Mouse Pad (Black)

Customer Review: Extremely Comfortable
Summary: 5 Stars

This mouse pad is an excellent investment for anyone who uses a mouse for any decent length of time.
1) The size is more than adequate for me, I am able to go across a 22" monitor in one motion (although this will depend mostly on your mouse sensitivity).
2) The material on the top is soft and feels like a foam neoprene laptop case. Some people have complained about the friction and noise of sliding the mouse: there is SOME noise, but not more than any other mouse pad. The friction of the neoprene is higher than a desk or a hard plastic mouse pad, but I personally think it gives me more control of my mouse. Not an issue at all in my opinion, the difference is noticeable at best.
3) I haven't owned this for long, but I could foresee something scratching it (like a watch or a pen) and making the threads come up. Also, the whole thing is flexible and foam, so you don't risk cracking any plastic components if you shove it into a laptop bag. The foam bottom keeps it from sliding quite well, although I don't think that would be an issue for any wrist pad. It may pick up a little dust, but any gripping surface will do that.
4) The design is what sets this mouse pad apart. The sort of trapezoidal shape of the top part allows you to have a greater range of motion, especially compared to a round mouse pad like the Fellowes Gel Mousepad. (If you look at your hands while you use your mouse, when you go back and forth, you don't use the part closest to your wrist, the greatest range of motion is at your fingertips).
The actual wrist support is excellent as well. Belkin, either by luck or a stroke of brilliance, designed the wrist support to have an indent in the middle. The reason this is significant is because it now creates two support points for your wrist. This is superior again, to the Fellowes Gel pad (not bashing it or anything, it is just the best comparison I can give) because the gel pad is just a giant bubble, creating one pressure point on your wrist that can reduce circulation and comfort. The slight indent allows the pressure to be distributed to the bottom of your palm and an inch or two above the wrist, rather than right on the joint of your hand and arm. This may seem trivial, but if you have ever had issues with circulation while using wrist/mouse pads like I have, this one does the trick because it allows better circulation.
5) On an even more obscure note, since this mouse pad is neoprene and not smooth plastic like the Fellowes, it breathes better and therefore reduces sweating. Hopefully this point helps someone with sweaty palms or works in a warm environment :D

Overall this is the best mouse pad I could have chosen. Do keep in mind that if you use an optical mouse (if your mouse emits a red light at the bottom), there could be tracking issues and your cursor may jump around because this mouse pad is black and absorbs light differently than a wooden desk would. However, this largely depends on the quality and age of your mouse. My laser mouse has had no issues at all.

Customer Review: great mouse pad for the price
Summary: 4 Stars

It is a mouse pad made by Belkin, which has a reputation of making reasonably priced and acceptable products. I have had it for a few days, some reviews say they couldn't live without it, some say it is too hard...this is my two cents:

Comfort level: C+ - I see some reviews that say it is too hard, but I don't think so. It is gel and it needs to be a little hard to maintain it's shape. It does not feel like a pillow. If it did feel like a pillow, it would lose its shape and become flat where your wrist laid and fluffy on the sides. I have used it for an hour or two at a time and I think it's nice for the price. I have it on a end table beside the couch and my had goes to sleep if I don't pick it up every 4-5 minutes, but I can't say that is uncommon for a mouse pad of this type.

Functionality: A+ - I have been using this mouse pad with a laser mouse and it works flawlessly. I do not know what to say except that it does the job as far as I am concerned.

One more comment...The bottom of this thing is tacky. When I say tacky I don't mean that it is not very fashionable, I mean that it sticks to crap like crazy. It will not slide on any surface under normal conditions.

Durability: I have had it for just a few days, but it does seem to be a fairly durable product. It seems to be covered in a neoprene type cover. I think you could spill anything on it and simply wash it out and dry it, though I have never done it. I think if you were wearing a watch on your mouse hand, mine is on the right, the wrist pad covering would be gone in a couple of weeks of moderate use.

Overall: I recommend this mouse pad for the price. I have not had a lot of experience with mouse pads with a pad for the wrist, but I am glad I switched over. I don't know what to tell you if you will be using it for eight hours a day, but for the recreational net surfer, it is one heck of a mouse for your money and I plan on using mine for at least the next couple of years. So, if you want a flashy, custom colored mouse pad with memory foam then you need to spend more money, but if you want a good mouse pad for your hard-earned money, then go with this Belkin.

Customer Review: Good Mouse Pad But...Here's What You Need To Konw
Summary: 4 Stars

Let me say first, that I am not comparing this product to any other products for the simple fact it's my first mouse pad with wrist support. Secondly, I've read through other customers' reviews prior to making my purchase. I think now that I've had it for a bit over a month I can pitch into the online community with my own review:

1) Value for the Price: It's under 6 bucks so it's a value buy.
2) Is it for gamers or for everyday users? I'm not a gamer myself but judging by what other reviewers have contributed I would NOT recommend it for gaming because it is relatively small. Please, see photo(s) attached. Gamers often demand more real estate. There are other pads out there especially designed for gaming. This is NOT one of them.
3)Does it really smell? it does! But honestly the odor is barely that serious of an issue for me to make an impact as to not recommend it for potential buyers. In order for me to smell it now I have to stick it against my nose so... One more thing to be mentioned here: I don't have any allergies to smell or otherwise.
4) The wrist support, is it soft or stiff? It is rather stiff. How does it compare to older Belkin models? I don't know because it's my first. Do I like it still? Yes, I do.
5) Does it work best with laser or optical mice? I'm using Logitech M505 Laser Muse & it works great. But taking into account other reviews, the majority have pointed/hinted compatibility issues with their optical mice so if you have an optical mouse I'd look for else where just to be on the safe side.
6) Does it skid? Nope, it actually sticks really well on my desk's surface. You may refer to the product photos.

After all, I still think it is a good buy for the price, it meets my expectations & serves my needs. I hope my review would help you make a better buying decision.

Customer Review: The Most Comfortable Mouse Pad You Will Ever Own!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to say this mouse pad has far exceeded anything I hoped for. When I first opened the box it was shipped in I was very put off. There was a Very, Very strong chemical smell. I chalked it up to something in the packaging material. It turns out that was not where the smell was coming from. It was the mouse pad itself. Having worked in a shoe factory years ago I was able to identify the smell as an industrial glue. The smell hung around for a couple of days. Now, 1 week after having received my purchase if I put my nose close to the pad, it still carries the faint smell of industrial glue. I would caution those with allergies and/or asthma to consider this prior to purchase. As an asthmatic I can say it did affect my breathing some what. That seems to have gotten better as the smell has lessened. I have finished with my public health warning. On to the mouse pad.
It is simply the best mouse pad I have ever used. I have had wrist problems for over 4 years now. I have had swelling and pain from my right pinkie finger to my elbow as a result of console gaming and lots of keyboarding work. In the past week my swelling has greatly reduced. My pain is almost gone. My wrist sits perfectly on the wrist rest. The pad actually cradles my wrist. The wrist rest moves with my hand, so well and with so much support, it seems to be an extension of my body. A new improved appendage. I have found myself resting my wrist on the pad even while not computing but just sitting at my desk. It truly is that comfortable. I already have plans to purchase two more for friends as Christmas gifts. Worth Every Cent! Go For It! You Will Not Be Disappointed!

Customer Review: Belkin has changed the material
Summary: 4 Stars

I'd like to give it 5 stars, but sometime in the last 12 months Belkin has changed this pad slightly. Mouse surface area is a bit thinner, which is no big deal, but the material is now extremely slick by comparison and feels something like nylon. Mr Mouse moves like he's being chased by one voraciously hungry feline, and at some point it feels like the surface might "snag" but may only need some getting used to. Different feel against bare skin also, and time will tell how that goes, but initial reaction is "ewwwww." I'm not a fan of nylon (or polyester, thank you!).

Adjusting tracking speed down a notch on Mr Mouse got him back under control, but I suspect you could seriously fly on this with the right optical if so desired. I was set about midpoint speed prior (no gaming here) and I believe use and day-to-day dust/dirt buildup will bring it to a slow crawl eventually.

Meantime I'm shampooing my old Belkin pad well, as that material seems to hold up fine to doing so and does not bother my wrist -- and hanging onto that one should this new version have a shortened live expectancy. Appears Belkin changed Chinese suppliers since the logo stamping on it is also different. Wasn't broke, IMHO no need to fix. I'm guessing this was a "bottom line" decision on their part.

If you need wrist support, this pad is still the simplest and best option I've found to date, and basic black in a reasonably compact size works very well with my desk, so from a form standpoint, it gets a 10. Function drops to 8 until I can give it a few days of serious workout. Still, can't do much better for the $$.
