Customer Review: Promises good features, but doesn't deliver

If this had operated as advertised, the rating would be much higher. My device failed after less than a year of light use. I will not be buying another.
As others have pointed out, the "ClearScan" feature seems to randomly pick stations in the low end of the FM range. It almost never picks one it can transmit clearly on. When I was in my home area, I'd found a station that it worked reasonably well on, and used it as a preset, but when I tested the scan feature, it would pick other stations, some of which it could not transmit over at all. When traveling, I'd have to periodically scan through my FM tuner to find clear stations, which is exactly what I wanted to avoid. This was a major selling point for me, so I was quite disappointed when it turned out not to work.
I should have returned it right away. Alas, I did not, so I was able to spend time with it and learn its other deficiencies:
- Intermittent static even on the clearest frequencies. Sometimes I could find a specific location to put the device to minimize static, but this would not work consistently. Other times, I'd have to hold it in my hand while driving to avoid static.
- The "this device is not compatible with the iPhone" warning was annoying. I did try putting the iPhone into Airplane mode to see if it reduced static -- it did not.
- The frequency range did not extend low enough to use some of the empty spots at the very bottom of the FM dial.
- Frequency selection included both odd and even numbers. I guess this allows it to be used in other countries, but in the US where digital tuners can only be set on odd frequencies, it's annoying.
- The device started getting flaky after less than a year of occasional use, refusing to auto scan and randomly freezing up. Finally, it stopped working entirely. I don't feel I've gotten my money's worth out of it.

Cut through the static with ClearScan--your TuneCast will automatically (and quickly) scan the FM spectrum to find a clear frequency at the push of a button. Avoid the frustration of manually finding a clear FM station. When find a couple of favorites, store them with the two programmable preset buttons.
