Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin Hi-Speed USB 2.0 Cable (10 Feet)Customer Review: All USB cables are created equal. Summary: 4 Stars
At $3.99, this is a good price for a name brand USB cable, but only because they tend to dramatically overcharge on their prices. There are no differences with USB cables other than length and the shape of the connectors placed on each end. There are plenty of online retailers that sell USB cables for less than $1.00 and they will work just as fine as any high priced one you may see at BestBuy, CircuitCity, Staples, OfficeMax, Radio Shack, etc. Many of the high priced cables will include gold plated connectors which is just a gimmick, they provide no better connection that those without it. Also USB cables do not have speeds associated with them they way computers and laptops do. There is no such thing as a USB 1.1 or 2.0 cable so if you have an older USB cable when USB 1.1 was the only thing out, it will work perfectly with the newer USB 2.0 technology. They are made exactly the same, you're told you need a newer "high speed" hoping that you'll throw away you perfectly capable current cable and buy the new $40 gold-plated zero-loss oxygen-free cable when you really don't need it. As I said at earlier, $3.99 is a good price for this set, but you can find better if you shop around. If Amazon is the only site you trust buying from, definitely get these.
1-17-2005 Update. At the current price, this is no-longer a good deal.
Customer Review: parallel replacement Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this cable to replace a parallel cable connection to a printer on my home computer. Because of the cabinet the PC and printer are in, I had to disconnect the printer cable anytime I needed to access the rear of the PC. With this 10 foot cable, that's no longer necessary, and I can now easily connect the printer to my office laptop, when working at home. I checked into buying a cable at a local Radio Shack, but would have spent nearly 3 times what it cost through Amazon.
Some add'l info: It's an older PC, but running Windows XP Pro, and an HP deskjet 970 series printer. The print drivers were found without any external media used. I just have to watch out for the default printer selection when printing from each application for the first time after the new connection. After I deleted the parallel printer configuration, the MS apps (Office) are defaulting to the document imaging printer definition.
Customer Review: excellent value and quality Summary: 5 Stars
Belkin makes a great USB 2.0 cable to connect computer hardware together for the ultimate computer experience! The cord is cheap, backward compatible and it does the job very reliably.
I recently purchased a new printer and used this product after having used it to hook up for old printer to my current computer. The cable made hardware recognition and setup remarkably easy as data was transmitted incredibly fast between the printer and the computer.
Hey, I'm no computer technician expert who can speak in fancy "computerese" terms; but when people say this USB 2.0 cable does the job and more they truly must mean it. I have no complaints about this cable.
I highly recommend this product by Belkin for people who need a USB cable. It sure is inexpensive; and you get great quality and value for your buck.
Get one today if you need it--you won't be disappointed.
Customer Review: Amazon keeps asking me to review this here wire Summary: 2 Stars
USB cables annoy the beejeebers out of me. You buy a printer for $40. Then you are supposed to pay another $25 for a cable to hook it up to your computer? I have heard of the "add on sales" model, as successfully used by Gillette to build their razor blade empire, but this is ridiculous. Particularly ridiculous as those yokels selling the printers aren't making any money on the cables (in fact, they're getting you on the printer ink).
I bought my cable from amazon for $11. It isn't a great price. A great price would be $2, and that would be what a USB cable is worth. USB should be cheaper than old school 10base2 ethernet cable (which, by comparison, had better shielding, and a relatively complicated connector), but it isn't. Someone, somewhere is making a zillion dollars on USB cable, and I'd like to track him down and punch him in the throat for it.
Customer Review: Computer Peripheral Cable - Cheap & Excellent! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a humble but required part running between computer and a peripheral, in this case a new printer. It wasn't included with the printer I was purchasing according to my shopping research. The printer can operate wirelessly, which is a desirable feature. My research showed it did require a cable in order to scan items into files. Had the printer on hand and wasn't sure about the cost/benefit ratio of heading out to shop for the cable from a limited selection of stores. Amazon to the rescue with one of its pre-Christmas deals. Cable with free shipping at a price well below the in-store price, with no added time investment or gas burned.
Belkin is a well established manufacturer of needed but not-so-sexy items that keep our electronics up and running for us.
Very happy with both the item and the price/service by Amazon!
