Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin CushTop Notebook Stand (Chocolate/Blue)

Customer Review: Exactly what I wanted
Summary: 5 Stars

I use my laptop early in the morning in bed and prefer not having the heat of the notebook directly in my lap. This stand does just that...no it's not a "cooler" but the flat surface allows air in if your notebook still has the pads underneath. Ergonomically it is very comfortable. I have had no wrist or arm discomfort using it.

Additionally, having the open center, I am able to pick up the pad and the laptop without putting strain on the notebook itself/or the monitor. The fabric surface keeps the notebook in place (no sliding), so I can get up and move around frequently.

Finally, it takes some of the stress off my power cord, as when the notebook is just on my lap, the tension on the cord/notebook outlet was sometimes a problem.

Overall, I got exactly what I paid for and what I was looking for. I am very pleased and would recommend the product. (Oh, and I got it at Target for 19.99).

Customer Review: Tremendous Buy
Summary: 5 Stars

I can't say enough for this laptop desk. I paid $15(everyday price) for it at Target. It is available only in brown in their stores. I use it with my 10 inch HP notebook and I find it very comfortable. If used with a 15 or 17 inch laptop there doesn't appear to be enough room for a mouse. There is however adequate room for a mouse and my 10 inch notebook. The distance between the bottom of the notebook and desk is the same as it is when sitting on any other surface. The thickness of the rubber feet (approximately 3/8" ) on the bottom of the notebook determines the clearance. I doubt whether Belkin's claim of extra cooling has any merit. I have noticed no overheating of my notebook. The huge storage space in the middle of the desk is very handy. I store my power supply, cords, mouse and notes in there. If one intends to use this laptop desk with a 10 inch notebook I would highly reccommend it.

Customer Review: Looks good but makes a poor cooling pad
Summary: 2 Stars

Pros: soft surface yet very firm. I like how it works with both 15.4" and 17" notebooks. Great positioning for using while sitting in bed or on the couch.
Cons: Does not allow your notebook to breathe, there is zero room between the top surface and the bottom of the notebook. Belkin claims that the fabric allows for air to move freely but I have had my notebook shut down 3 times due to overheating, and that's no bueno!

This is a poor solution for cooling, if you have a notebook that tends to run hot anyway due to the way you use your notebook, burning DVD's, downloading, copying files, severe multitasking and maybe harware(Dual core, 4 gigs memory)find another solution.
I ended up buying an Antec cooler (looks like a silver X) and I set it under the Belkin which makes it a little taller than it was before but like I said the lift and angle of the Belkin is really nice.

Customer Review: Functional plus Style
Summary: 4 Stars

I've always been skeptical of gimmicky electronics accessories, but this item is no gimmick. I work from home and use a laptop on a 9am-5pm daily basis. I was continually having to lift my MacBook off my legs because of the heat, and my wrists would get sore from typing at such an awkward angle. The Belkin CushTop saved my day. It is extremely light. Its very well made and durable. I have used it everyday for over 6 months now, and it still looks like new. It holds a 15" MacBook perfectly. It is very comfortable for typing if you are sitting upright in a chair. If you are using a notebook on your lap, on a daily basis, this isn't a frivolous perk, its a necessity.

The only thing it isn't, is a laptop cooler. It definitely takes the heat off your legs but it doesn't cool the laptop's running temp at all. The CushTop doesn't heat up at all, it just doesn't cool the laptop.

Customer Review: Not as good as it looks
Summary: 3 Stars

I have a Macbook Pro and a sony vaio. I bought this stand after reading all the great reviews.

My findings are as follows:
1) Its definitely comfortable to work on.
2) The surface is a bit coarse. So while working in shorts, I feel a slight irritation in the legs. Then I checked the pics here and noticed the model is wearing long pants :)
3) The smaller surface works perfectly for a 15" laptop. Both my laptops fit just fine.
4) My sony vaio is a heat machine..probably as hot as the sahara desert! I didnt find a great improvement in heat control here. Its definitely better than placing the laptop on ur lap, but after reading all the reviews claiming heat reduction, I was slightly disappointed.

So 3 stars for this one from me. A decent choice but not one of the best.
