Customer Review: Great Laptop Desk for the Bedroom

I was looking for a portable laptop desk to use in the bedroom. I had a flat laptop portable desk with a cushy bottom. While it was okay, the heat from the laptop was warping the top, I saw this stand at Sam's Club and hunted high and low in the store to find it, but found out it only came in a bundle with a laptop. My next stop, of course, was Amazon. Found out the product came in several different colors and while brown wasn't my first choice is was the least expensive. Now that I have used the desk, I love it. The angle is great, the laptop doesn't slip down, the material used for the desk absorbs the heat from the laptop and seems to allow it to run cooler to the point I have starting using the portable desk on my real desk.
The only downside to the product is the bottom is a little stiff which makes sitting it on your lap uncomfortable if used for long periods of time. But I still like the product enough that I am going to buy more for all of my family's laptops.

Many laptops today are not made to sit on your lap... why do we call them laptops? This product is much softer to set on your lap than your laptop. It has what feels like nothing more than a layer of plastic or cardboard covered in a thin layer of padding and fabric, however it helps distribute the weight of the laptop evenly across your lap. One big thing to be aware of is the angle of the cush top. Depending on how you type, the angle may be to large. My laptop has legs in the back to give a somewhat natural angle for typing. The cush top adds more. The total angle is a bit too much for me, but it is still useable.
The cush top allows he fans to circulate air below the machine more efficiently. If you have a high powered laptop which gets hot (as I do) it can get very hot sitting in your lap. I saw about 10 degrees difference in running temperature setting it on top of cush top. The cush top is a decent investment to make your laptop return to its roots and sit on your lap.

My boyfriend and I each have this item in brown/tourmaline. We've had them for several months. I love the color scheme -- it's stylish and matches my stuff now, but since it's mostly brown, it's neutral enough to blend in with other palettes.
I have a 13" Macbook, and I like to sit cross-legged with the pad big-side-up. It rests nicely on my knees that way, with enough space for a small mousing surface next to the laptop. When I'm done, I tuck the laptop inside the pillow to keep my dumb cats from sitting on it. (Nota bene: This only works for slim computers. My little 10" Acer netbook has a fat battery and barely fits.)
My boyfriend has a 14" Compaq that only has fans on the bottom. (Honestly, who designs stuff that way?) It crashes if he leaves it on an upholstered surface or bed, but seems to stay much cooler on the CushTop surface. It's pretty clear-cut: CushTop = no heat crash.
I plan to buy the same model if one of ours wears out.

I bought one of these because I wanted something more stable than a stack of magazines to put on my lap when I was sitting in the living room. After a week i had to buy a second one because my wife stole the first. Now we are up to 4 - one per person in the family. I am typing this with my computer on one right now.
I use mine upside down - 15 inch MBP on the 17 inch side - because it protects any USB devices plugged into the sides. Besides the protection, I like the angle better. And the seam on the 17 inch side caches my laptop just enough to hold it in place even when I am tilting it a lot.
This is by far the best lap desk/cooling pad I have ever used. The fabric is comfortable on your skin and I have had no issues with overheating. It is firm, stable and light. I dont use the middle to store things but I do put my iphone in there when I am charging/syncing. My only "gripe" is that it doesnt travel well but Belkin doesnt say it does either.

I originally purchased this item for my mom as a stocking stuffer this past Christmas.. She was always complaining that her laptop made her lap hot. I had worried about her laptop over heating so I thought this would be a cool thing to try.. She loves hers. I had used it a couple of times while working on her laptop and I found it very comfortable to work on so much so I ended up buying another for my laptop.
I recently went back to school and found that I was spending my days sitting at a desk looking at a computer at working and then spending my evenings doing the same for school.. I needed something that I could use that would be comfortable if I choose to do homework while sitting on my bed or sofa without worrying that the machine would suffocate if i sit it down.. This wedge works great. I have not found that my laptop gets any hotter then if it was sitting on my desk when I am working or watching movies.. I highly recommend this item for us sofa surfers!
