Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin BZ103050vTVL Mini Surge Protector/Dual USB ChargerCustomer Review: Will not charge PS3 controller Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this device as a USB charger for a PS3 controller, so that I won't have to have PS3 running needlessly while controller charges. Unfortunately this thing will not charge controller if its life depended on it, whereas my Dell USB port charges PS3 controller just fine. Other than this "little" issue, this protector does its job. It's a little bigger than pictures led you to believe, but otherwise, it's quite a manageable and portable size. I've been able to charge my iPod Touch with no problems so I will take it with me on long trips. Tried to contact Belkin about PS3 issue, but got a standard reply with no help other than we'll look into it and you can return item back to Amazon. That's a shame, I've always held Belkin to a high regard.
Customer Review: Power output too low Summary: 2 Stars
I really like this thing, especially when traveling, where hotel power sockets and luggage space are at a premium. It's reasonably compact for what it does (though that could be improved), and the pivoting is essential.
It charges my iPhone 4G and 3G OK, but it won't charge my iPad (iPad just says "not charging". And my Sprint Overdrive 3G/4G flips out when I plug it in, squawking or rebooting constantly. If I plug in the OverDrive AND the iPhone, the iphone starts acting weird too.
All of this is regardless of whether anything is plugged into the AC sockets. I don't have a great way to measure but it seems like the voltages (or more likely, current) aren't sufficient for many devices.
Customer Review: Good idea, falls short on protection Summary: 2 Stars
This would be great if it had better surge protection, though it is bulky. As an earlier reviewer said, 800V clamping is too high (the voltage level at which surge suppression takes place). UL 1449 best rating for transient voltage surge suppression is 330V. It's better than using nothing to connect an inexpensive device, but I won't use it for my laptop. Interestingly I had called Belkin sales (and the rep checked with tech dept) to ask why I should feel comfortable connecting my computer to this, and they said I should use 330V protection. So for my MacBook Pro I bought the APC P1T, which only has 1 elec outlet and doesn't have USB, but it's rated UL 1449 330V and is smaller.
Customer Review: Misleading but I still am buying another one. Summary: 4 Stars
It "Comes with Lifetime Product and $75,000 Connected Equipment Warranties" as you can find on Belkin.com, but as some pictures show, the stabilizer piece does not work. It would work if the wall outlet face was flush with the wall. I can't say much about how well it is to take with yo on the go but I have been charging my iPod Touch, my Phone (not the iPhone because they are only on AT&T which sucks more than Verizon) and my MacBook Pro along with my Time Capsule. I would like it if the USB ports were on the bottom or the side because they are in the way of the other wall plugin when it is rotated to hang vertically.
I still am going to get another one.
Customer Review: Peace of Mind for the On-the-Go Gamer / Blogger / Whatever Summary: 5 Stars
Have had this product for a couple of weeks and used it on two plane trips and many times to the cafes. I have an G51JX-A1 15.6-Inch Gaming Laptop which was quite the investment so I bought this product to help protect it and I think it already saved my laptop. At the airport waiting for my flight, I had it plugged in. I was so immersed in what I was doing on my laptop that I didn't notice the cleaning crew came in to one side of me and had plugged in many of their devices. A guy using the second outlet on the wall commented that his screen flickered a bit but mine did not.
Definitely provided more than a peace of mind.
