Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin Armband Case for iPod nano 1G, 2G (Black)Customer Review: Works Well If You Don't Mind Adjusting It! Summary: 4 Stars
I bought this sports sleeve about 6 months ago and it has served me quite well in that time. It stands up to repeated use, abuse and (in the case of the arm band) many cycles in the washing machine. As many have pointed out the silicone case is sleek, attractive and fits my 2nd generation 2GB nano perfectly.
The drawbacks are relatively minor and mostly have to do with the armband itself. First off it seems to be sized on the large side. As a woman with fairly big arms I was surprised that I still have to attach the band all the way at the far edge of the velcro. A woman with thin or even mid-size arms wouldn't really be able to use this strap at all.
Another issue is that once it's on you have to be very careful that the plastic ring holding the strap is on the outside/front of your arm because it pinches and chafes the more delicate skin on the underside of your arm. Unfortunately, if you don't have very large arms this means sliding the band on, cinching it tight then wrestling the whole thing all the way around your arm and readjusting your nano accordingly. You also have to cinch it pretty tight to keep it from sliding down your arm while you work out. It's kind of hard to find the right balance between too-loose and tourniquet!
Last and most certainly least is the plastic cover for the display screen. It works well...for a while. However, if you're like me and take your iPod everywhere, that little slip of plastic doesn't hold out too long. I finally had to remove mine about a month ago as it got too cloudy to see through.
Overall, this is a good product for the price. It's durable, functional and with a bit of trial and error it can be comfortable. Though I would caution anyone with small arms to pick another arm band.
Customer Review: Good, not perfect Summary: 4 Stars
This is a decent and effective armband, and at the price, it's hard to beat. But there are a couple of disadvantages buyers should be aware of. First, the strap is pretty long. That's fine with me, but if your arms are tiny, this thing is going to fit very loosely.
Second, there's a screen protector -- just a piece of clear plastic -- but if you don't look carefully for it, you're bound to throw it out with the packaging, as I did. It's attached to the packaging with tape, and the tape on mine had dried out and was impossible to remove without damaging the protector itself. So, no protector.
The case itself is black rubber and fits the ipod a bit loosely and thus it tends to move around. That's not a total disadvantage since you'll have to push the case away from the connectors every time you want to sync or attach the headphones. That's because the case, just barely overlaps the relevant ports. Not a big disadvantage, just an annoyance.
On the good side, the armband is easily removeable, so you can keep the ipod in your pocket, with the case on, but without the bulk of the strap. That's a big win. And there's no plastic covering the scroll wheel. I've seen other armbands (Apple's, for example) with plastic coverings there and they tend to make the scroll wheel unresponsive. Also, the rubber feel of the case is good and it clearly protects the ipod and makes it easier to hold (because it's not slippery). The fact that it's black is good -- it doesn't show dirt. Finally, the armband feels quite good -- a nice amount of stretch, not too much.
All in all, I'd buy it again. And at the price it's a great deal. But if it were to cost more, I wouldn't be so sure.
Customer Review: Beware if your arm is small Summary: 3 Stars
This is a great item, however, I can't give it full rating due to it not being able to fit on arms which are small. Both my 22 year old daughter and wife are relatively small, but not petite, tiny, or sub-sized at all. Neither of them can fit this comfortably on their arms and they are looking for way to modify the band so it will better fit their arms. I am fine with it, however, I am 6'4" tall and 230 pounds.
I called Belkin with the issue. They said yes, they have had multiple complaints. I asked if they were coming out with a new style, or if they had anything to send out which might fix the issue for those who already purchased. The female rep was very kind, and she loved my ideas on how to fix the issue and said she would write them up and pass on to her bosses, however, she said Belkin has no pans at this time to change the design now, nor are they actively looking at a way to fix those that have been sent out already and sold.
Ho hard was it for Belkin to test this armband on many arms prior to sending them out. This is unacceptable and I would have fired anyone that didn't' at least test the device out thoroughly prior to release. Totally unacceptable. Belkin, I hope, wakes up and see this is the first experience some people might have with Belkin and it won't be a pleasant one for those with small arms.
If you are a medium to large person, this works wonderfully. You have a nice armband as well as being able to see the iPod face to change settings. It is well priced and much better than the more costly Nike brand that makes you sweat all around the band and have a difficult time in changing iPod settings. Buy it and enjoy.
Customer Review: Great Value Summary: 4 Stars
This is just a plain barebones case. It has a silicone casing that goes around the ipod, and then the strap goes through the back of it (note there isn't really an attachment to put the strap through, it's cut outs in the case itself, so the strap is touching the back of the ipod). You can also just use the case without the strap.
It seems to work pretty well, the strap fits well and doesn't bind up or seem to tight, so it has the right amount of strechiness in it. The one thing that seems to be lacking, is the silicone case does not have anything that protects the screen or click wheel. This is fine for me, but those wanting to use it as a standalone case and throw it in their bag/purse might want to look at something else.
It's an all around simple case and strap that seem well built, it also happens to be under half the price of any other cases out there.
(Nike + iPod users:) The whole bottom is open, including the headphone jack and dock connector. This means the Nike + iPod kit fits right in.
Update: Apparently according to other reviews it actually comes with a screen protector, however I must have thrown it away with the packaging, so watch out for that.
Customer Review: Great item at a great price Summary: 5 Stars
This is slim, snug and good looking protection for the Nano. I'm using with the new 2G Nano 8gb and it's much better than I expected. The tight little silicon rubber protector's staying on all the time -- it still leaves the nano mighty small, hardly any bigger in fact. This way if I drop it on a cement floor I've got a good chance of it's being unscathed. (Still not something to make a habbit of of course.) Of course my chosen Nano is black anyway -- if you want to show off blue or pink there might not be much of those colors showing through this sheath.
The arm band also works perfectly. I'm a 6'3 male with good size arms and it fits me perfectly It seems like it will adjust WAY smaller and a little bigger, which ought to accomodate the great majority.
As for bubbles appearing for some people under the optional stick on screen protector - just press down on the center first and work your finger pressure out to the edges. It's not hard guys, and it's what you need to do with all screen stick-ons. In other words that problem is "operator error", and easily avoidable with a modicum of operator knowledge.
