Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Belkin USB 2.0 Plus Hub (7 Port) F5U307-WHT

Customer Review: Over heats
Summary: 1 Stars

Well, I'm not sure if I got a dud or what since there are so many other positive reviews. This hub seemed to work great until one day it suddenly started rapidly cycling on and off. I picked it up and it was really really hot.

This device seems to work for your regular low throughput devices like keyboards, mice, printers, etc. When I hook up my Sandisk CF card reader, or sync music with my iPhone (and charge it), it gets really hot and stops working.

After I unplug it for about 15 minutes it works again.

Belkin is known for making over-priced products that aren't anything special, but I often buy them anyway because I know they'll work. This isn't the case with this device. I think I'll try another brand.

Your mileage may vary, of course. If you plan on hooking up a lot of demanding devices to it though, I would consider looking elsewhere.

Customer Review: Excellent product for USB-hungry needs at a good price with compact design
Summary: 5 Stars

This small package 7 port USB 2.0 hub is excellent in design and use. It is priced very attractively on Amazon. I had concerns when I reviewed a previous review that indicated shortcomings including "not all 7 ports are USB 2.0" and "plugging in a USB 1.0 device slows down all devices plugged into the hub." I corresponded with Belkin before purchase and they indicated that all 7 ports were USB 2.0 capable, and that individual USB 1.0 devices plugged into the hub did not effect the performance of other devices plugged into the hub. [Reading through the web literature, it is possible that earlier versions of some USB 2.0 hubs -- maybe even this one -- had such technical limitations.] My short-term experience with this device is that it works as indicated. I don't know of its long-term durability. As a first impression, I highly recommend it.

Customer Review: 4 stars but: Here's why I decided NOT TO BUY this product
Summary: 4 Stars

I love the idea of having my cables organized and also the placement of ports on this product but...
Some investigation on Belkin's website revealed that only 4 of the 7 ports work at the 480Mbps (USB 2.0) speed. (The product user manual says so. 4 stars to Belkin for at least clarifying this! Most manufacturer's seem to happily keep these details fuzzy)

There's another problem I read about in some of the reviews for most USB hubs: Connecting even one USB 1.1 device forces all other USB (1.1/2.0)devices to run at the USB 1.1 speed. This product seems no exception. I am yet to come across a hub that solves this problem.

I have purchased a Cables To Go 7-port USB 2.0 hub. It seemed to have the best reviews and their product description explicitly mentions "7 USB 2.0 ports". I am currently waiting for it in the mail!

Customer Review: Sturdy, Well-Designed Hub
Summary: 5 Stars

I've owned many USB hubs before, and this is by far the best. The unit itself is weighted unlike most hubs, and won't slip off the edge of your desk. The cable guide on one side is nice too - try feeding a USB cable (for your camera, phone, etc) through it. No more cables disappearing off your desk when they're not connected!

There are 2 USB ports on the top of the unit, which is a nice touch even though I don't use many memory sticks.

Construction quality is excellent: no unbearably bright LEDs blinking all the time, the plastic and rubber moldings fit well. Overall the product feels properly made, unlike the $10 cheap hubs that look like they will fall apart any second.

My only complaint is the AC adapter used - it points in an awkward direction that may block nearby sockets if used on a power bar.

Customer Review: Does the job, helps minimize cable clutter
Summary: 4 Stars

I was tired of the cable clutter to my iPods, printers, etc. coming out of the front of my older D-link 4-port hub. I bought this as it has 5 ports on the back to keep cables of items that I have permanently plugged in (like printers and drives) out of the way. It is somewhat heavy and has non-skid rubber pads so it does not slide around on the desk. Additionally, it has 2 easy-access convenient ports on the top for the temporary use of USB key drives, digital cameras, and the like.

My only gripe is that it seems to me this hub could have been designed for more than 7 ports, as there is a lot of space on top and the front that could have been used for more USB ports. I always seem to get more and more USB devices, and I would certainly have bee interested in buying a version of this with more than 7 USB ports.
