Customer Review: Great surge suppressor
Summary: 4 Stars

With nothing between your delicate electronic equipment and a power surge, you're asking for heartache. All it takes to ruin your HDTV or your PC and your information is a power surge or a lightning storm, so why not protect yourself? With so many options out there, it can be difficult to decide what suppressor is right for your needs, but if you need multiple outlets that will accommodate the maximum number of plugs with a minimum amount of fuss, this suppressor is ideal.

With four center outlets for normal sized plugs, and eight pivoting outlets allowing for different size plugs and adapters, this suppressor seems to have all the versatility and protection you need in one unit. It is hard to get plugs into center outlets, and surprisingly, it's difficult to keep plugs IN the center outlets once you have them in. However, once you have your plugs where you need them, and everything is in one stable place, this suppressor should suit the needs of most users.

The main plug sticks out about two to three inches from the wall, and could have used a flat plug for the main connection. For most users, however I do not think this will be a problem. You've invested all this money into HDTVs, computers, blu-ray/DVD players, home theatre systems, iPod docking stations... why not give yourself some peace of mind by protecting your investments from power surges and lightning strikes? This unit offers powerful surge protection at a price you can afford, while maximizing the the number of usable outlets. I have no problem recommending this product to anyone who wants to protect their equipment, or anyone who needs to maximize outlet capacity while doing so.

Customer Review: Protect ALL Your Equipment!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've used cheap surge protectors only for the fact that I don't have enough outlets. When I heard that a friend blew out all his home theater devices with a lightning strike, I figured I should invest in a good one. The ones I already had are 6-8 outlets, but not all plugs are the same. Sometimes a plug will take two spots instead of one for some proprietary design. Since Amazon has everything, I searched and found the Belkin Surge Protector. Now I am a bit impressed with a "Surge Protector", of all things.

Basically it is one strong unit that has twelve (12) outlets. Eight (8) of these are flexible/rotating for those odd-ball plugs. On one Belkin, I was able to connect my Television, Receiver, DVD players (2), Satellite Television box, multiple CD Player/Changer, a Light fixture, a Satellite Speaker Transmitter, and two Sub-woofers. The eight (8) foot cord is more than long enough as my electrical socket is very close. I don't have a phone jack in my living room, so I didn't need that (it is a good idea), but the 1-in, 1-out coaxial-cable protection makes me feel very good about protection.

It says that it has 4,320 Joules of Surge Protection and I have no idea what that means, but when combined with a $300,000 "Connected Equipment Warranty", I guess I don't need to. It would be curious to see if it failed and if Belkin would actually pay up on a faulty surge protector, but it's a very nice warranty. It has been on for four days now and it is not even warm. For the price, Belkin gave me a lot of piece of mind.

Now I think I'll buy another for my PC set-up. That is an entirely different issue!

Customer Review: On my second one...still not perfect, but good enough
Summary: 3 Stars

I ordered this online from Amazon, received it, and everything looked okay with the packaging and shipping. I took it out of the box and tried to use it, and although the 8 outlets on the edges all worked perfectly fine, I couldn't plug anything all the way into the middle 4. They would go about 3/4 of the way in, and that was it, so it obviously wasn't safe to use. It was as if they were all connected to the same bar that had shifted out of place.

Amazon couldn't have made the return easier, and they gave me next day shipping on the replacement.

Received the replacement, and the packaging and shipping box all looked fine again. I went to plug everything in, and this time only 3 of the middle 4 outlets let me plug anything in (the working 3 had to be slightly forced at that).

Since I only needed to plug in 10 things anyway, I don't need that last middle outlet and just kept the unit as I was tired of pulling out my TV stand, but due to the fact I'm on my second one and even it isn't 100% functional, I'm giving it 3/5 stars. If the first one had all 12 outlets fully functional, I would have rated it 5/5.

Also, for all those who noted when the outside outlets are turned on their side that the unit can't sit flush with the floor with converters plugged in...just take a 6" 2x4 and put it under the unit so it's raised off the ground. Then the converters plugged into the side of the unit should have the clearance they need. It'll most likely be behind your TV stand anyway, so it probably doesn't matter how it looks.

Customer Review: Best I've found
Summary: 5 Stars

Ok, I realize surge protectors aren't exciting for the most part. But it is kind of exciting to find one that has connectors that pivot/adjust. I can't tell you how many surge protectors I have used that have ended with total frustration because I can't use all of the plugs. When you get oversized power supplies or heavy adaptors (think apple adaptors), it seems that all other surge protectors fail. And it is frustrating to only be able to use half of the outlets. With this one, 4 plugs on each side (for a total of 8) pivot--making it easy to plug in oversized power supplies next to each other because they don't cover up the other outlets. And it is such a dream for apple adaptors that tend to fall out of sockets if they aren't supported. With this, just tilt the socket and the adaptor rests on the floor while it is plugged in--and it never falls out.

For the sockets in the middle of the surge protector, I believe they can only be used with 3 prong plugs. When you use 2 prong plugs, they don't go in.

This product comes with an awesome warranty, much better than most I found. And it offers more protection than most surge protectors I found---and definitely the best for this price range. What the amazon write up doesn't tell you is that the warranty is void if you plug in medical equipment to the protector.

I would highly recommend this both for its quality and practicality. I will be buying more.

Customer Review: Handles All Your Odd shaped adapters
Summary: 5 Stars

Normally I don't review accessories such as these, but it really makes a huge difference with all the crazy different power adapters I have. If you think you don't, remember the chargers for your digital camera or NiMH AA charger.

Most modern compact battery chargers tend to fall out of most power sticks. For example, a AA charger or for your digital camera. Instead, you can angle them at 45 degrees so they will rest on the shelf or floor and not budge. Also, a portable wifi can also sit at an angle, rather than just popping out under its weight. The big adapters are additional supported by other cables that you may run horizontally. Check out the picture I posted to see what I mean.

Every other power stick would only have 1/3 of its plugs usable; not only that, but they would fall out too easily. Not with this belkin.

It actually handles a higher surge than many out there. I've simultaneously powered: my 17" Apple, 24" monitor, three externall hard drives, a monster stereo, a scanner, a printer, a wifi, an NiMH charger, and lithium battery charger, and even an electric razor. Works fanastic without a glitch.

Also shows you if its properly grounded and protected with indicator lights. Organizes wires and through a pop up loop. Protects the cable as well.

Only complaint: I wish the cord was maybe 5 feet longer. I hooked a high quality extension to it instead
